bspn reprimanded Mike Reiss twice in the last few weeks

I would guess at least one incident is when he had to publicly say he did not publish an article that they attached his byline to that he did not write.

Mike has integrity. He also has a family and quitting jobs in an industry and niche (Patriots beat writer) where there are less than 10 positions, all probably filled, is a very hard thing to do.

I agreed with your post but the right thing isn't always the easy thing.

The friend of my enemy is my enemy. Reiss is on the wrong team.

SMY is leaving the Global Refuse. While a step down, it provides an exit, and he might resurrect some respect for them.

What nonsense. Do you say the same crap about Tedy Bruschi?

"There was a time when a reader could go to a certain place on the Web and know they were getting my take on the Patriots. The name of the blog actually included my last name, which further reinforced the personal aspect of it."

This sticks out the most to me. This is from Reiss' personal website in January on the DeflateGate coverage. Can't imagine what he would say now given all the mis-information and leaks. Not saying this is necessarily better but Peter King (Roger's lover, I know) is always complimenting Reiss. Maybe a Bedard type job covering mostly Pats could be his next calling at MMQB.

The Globe is another anti-Patriot new outlet. Bad move.

Fox Sports might be the best landing sport for him. Only issue is that he needs to sacrifice as he will need to travel and be away from the family a little more ( i guess). On the other hand he'll be a bit more diversified and not locked in on one team. It'll help his career IMO long term.

Personally, I'd love to see him take over Patriot ProFootball Weekly and maybe do some stuff for Kraft Productions and of course team coverage. Get rid of Perillo and Hart AKA "Waldorf and Statler"

There was a Globe Reporter who went to be Director of Communications for some NHL team.

I bet ESPN told him to stifle that too.

Failed to meet his monthly quota of Pats hit pieces

Yes I do. Teddy needs to leave too.

Though he gets a little more leeway as he is an analyst not a reporter. Not to mention I love him for his playing days not his analysis.

I think that's referring to his deal with HBO, which includes a weekly TV show, a podcast, some HBO sports content, and other unspecified stuff.

I don't think it includes a Grantland-style website, although I could be wrong there. IMO it makes sense for him to launch a website, because he draws a ton of clicks and has proven that he can build a brand and bring in talent. Although Grantland never got a chance to become profitable, I think a site like that could be under his watch, and there's no shortage of people willing to give him money to make it happen if HBO isn't.

I hope B.S. has some type of writing venue (whether it be a column, mailbags, contributed articles), in my opinion his writing (and his willingness to take risks) is what really sets him apart.

Probably he is trying to create some completely new type of venue that we haven't even thought about yet. I had never heard a podcast until I listened to the BS report, and I had never seen a website like Grantland until he started it up.

Free Mike Reiss!!

Why does he get more leeway? Why is analyst magically better than reporter? Reiss has never slanted any of his reporting against the Pats, he's been scrupulously fair. More importantly, since the friend of your enemy is your enemy, is Bruschi now on your enemies list?

reporter - a person employed to gather and report news

Sports Analyst - provides expert discussion of sports-related topics before, during, or after a sporting event.

One is paid to gather the news and report it the other is paid for his inside knowledge of the sport.

And the only reason Bru isn't on my enemies list is due to his playing days. I care nothing about his analysis as I can't trust that ESPN won't force him to lie or go all ESPN.

Mike has been a beacon of honesty and integrity, while doing a very tough job. We all know why BB doesn't open up to the media, but swallowing his sarcastic comments and stonewalling while having that infamous organization to please too is a really difficult gig.

I know what the difference between the positions in. The question, is one guy (despite very clearly never carrying ESPNs water) being put on your enemies list, and the other is not?

And if you seriously don't trust Bruschci's analysis because you think ESPN might 'force' him to say something nefarious, you've got some problems.

Simmons hinted yesterday that he has a new gig starting in a couple of weeks.. It will be interesting to see with whom..
Unless the HBO deal is exclusive, expect a podcast on the ACE network. He is BFFs with Adam Carolla.

Conduct unbecoming for a bspn reporter, i.e. reporting information favorable to the Pats.

If Mike keeps up his outstanding work, he should expect to be suspended the first four games of the season.
