IMO, Boyce won't make the team. His skill set overlaps with Edelman and Amendola too much, and he would have to really excel to make a case for himself, but he truly hasn't so far. If they're gonna keep an extra couple WRs after Edelman, LaFell and Amendola, they should be guys who bring something different, i.e. Gibson, Dobson, Tyms, Harper. Even if they don't look great yet, at least they have the potential to add a different element.
It's a shame, but I agree. His speed is potentially a big asset, and he's good in the open field, but he runs bad routes and has awful hands. Which makes him a crap WR. I was hopeful after all of the TC reports, but he's had enough targets tonight that I feel pretty comfortable concluding that he just doesn't really have NFL-caliber skills.
Right now, I would guess that Gibson wins the battle for WR4.
Nobody's throwing in the towel on Jimmy, but seeing his lackluster play just makes me miss Tom. Brady has spoiled us in New England. Watching this pedestrian QB play and knowing it's ours for 4 games must be how other teams feel about their QBs.
Garoppolo seems to be feeling the pressure of this stupid court thing, not knowing if he'll start. Just my opinion, but I bet he'd be better if he knew one way or the other.

Agree about not making the team but IMO he's far more of an outside receiver and likely a best fit at flanker behind LaFell and Dobson. He's fast but he's far from quick and your inside receivers need to be pretty quick. IMO best case for the offense is if Dobson comes into his own and can play split end. That way they'll have LaFell, Edelman, and Dobson all in their most natural positions and have some flexibility with putting Edelman at split end and Dobson at flanker for certain looks and matchups.
and that's without any of the projected opening game starters, outside of probably Tre' Jackson and Jonas Gray and potentially White as the 3rd down back.
After what I saw today, Jonas Gray will average 8 yards per carry and Butler is the next Revis. Can I watch a few games before making predictions? Jimmy struggled tonight, as did others.
