Eureka!

Maybe I'm in left field on this (I am there frequently), but I had been wondering all day about that cyptic part of Mort's cancellation message to WEEI this morning where he said something to the effect of "I'll tell you all about it when this is over" and that he was rooting for Brady in this..

I couldn't fathom why he was so set on withholding the truth that he sounded like he finally wanted to get out until "it was over".

Somebody got to him in the we hours of the morning as Dennis was outing Kensil and informing him of what was about to occur today and to clam up so as not to affect the legal proceedings.

my two cents.

“You guys made a mistake by drumming up business for the show and how I would address my reporting for the first time,” Mortensen informed WEEI. “I will not allow WEEI, [Patriots owner Robert] Kraft or anybody to make me the centerpiece of a story that has been misreported far beyond anything I did in the first 48 hours. Maybe when the lawsuit is settled, in Brady’s favor, I hope, we can revisit. Don’t call.

He HAD to know that D+C would be asking about his reporting on Deflategate and he was still coming on until 4am this morning.

He used the word "SETTLED". Not "adjudicated".

Very possible someone got to him that had knowledge of the motions to be filed this morning.

The "Maybe I'll talk to you about this afterward" sounded fishy. Why would such a moral and upstanding person such as Mortensen say he was rooting for Brady and was amenable to telling about how he reported the misinformation only AFTER Brady was to get hosed?

Not saying definite, but a definite possibility.

What does that have to do with the expedition agreement?
Mortensen didn't like being considered the Top Leaker, so he cried, took his ball, and went home.

Once again "Maybe when the lawsuit is SETTLED...."

And being considered the in conjunction with the "top leaker" is something Mort has been for over 6 months now. He didn't just come to that realization at 4am today.

IMO, somehow, Mort didn't realize that his appearance on this radio show would be national news.
And once it made PFT, he and ESPN and the NFL knew to make sure it didn't happen.

The timing could easily be a coincidence, although I would love for it not to be.

Mort doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt, IMO. He's had 6 months to demonstrate his alleged "hope" that it works out for Brady. I've seen and heard him plenty in that timeframe and have never once come away sensing he has this sentiment. This is a crock of crap he tried to serve up to the WEEI personnel and audience, nothing more. Fits with his gutless holier-than-thou persona that has been singularly unimpressive to me for a long time before this entire charade started.

Retract! #whereismort

Mortensen STILL hasn't retracted the story- what an idiot. Look, I get it that he wants to protect his source and will not out him. But at least have the common courtesy and professionalism to say you were wrong.

Chickensh.t actually had the audacity to call out Kraft again, however Kraft should call his bluff and reinstate MacNally and Jasteemski as another way to say f.ck you to the league.

I think the suspension of those two guys was another NYFL sleight of hand, we heard from the Pats that the NYFL told them to suspend them or at least strongly suggested and only the NYFL can re-instate them. When asked, the Pats said they were told to suspend them and of course the NYFL lied and said they didn't. Another lie to make it look like the Pats are guilty because everyone's saying why would they fire those two guys if they didn't do anything.

ESPN is the NFL's servant....and Roger is its master. Mort will be let out of the locked pantry once Goodell's next bonus check clears. In the meantime, Wells is going through Judge Berman's garbage cans looking for leverage. And the beat goes on......

He cant take it down because his source will not support the retraction OR his editors are being pressured not to by the suits.

Taking it down now puts a spotlight on the NFL's cover-up/framing of TB and NE and ESPN to be shoddy in its reporting and complicit to the NFL.

This.

There's this assumption that Mortensen has 100% control of his story once it's published. I really don't think he does.

...and based on Florio's article this morning Mort was lied to by multiple people in the NFL office.

Someone call Oliver Stone, I have a movie idea...

If your too lazy to get multiple sources in your rush to make a headline. You more that likely are a sports columnist! F'em all!!!

I'm wondering if mort was simply taken advantage of -- fed nonsense and used as a messenger.

So, he finally decides to sneak on over to weei to get the truth out when they 'make the mistake' of hyping the story, drawing the attention of sauron's eye, at which point he gets a call
.
