DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION ***THE OFFICIAL 2015 NFL 1st Round draft thread ***

This first round is going to be really interesting with so many to ten players dropping at the last minute. Players like Collins, Ray, and Gregory were thought to be well out of the Patriots range and now any of them could be there. Collins has to be off the board and I don't really want Ray but Gregory deserves serious consideration if he's still there. The downside is that Cameron Erving is almost certain to be gone with Collins almost certainly dropping significantly.

If the Patriots could get Michael Brockers for a 3rd round pick (and maybe a throw-in like Dennard or Dobson), would you pull the trigger? I think that would solve the defensive tackle position immediately at low cost in terms of draft capital and the salary cap, since he's got a year and his option year left on a rookie deal.

Could see, for instance, a possibility where the Rams offer Brockers and #41 for the #32 and a throw-in so they can take Bryce Petty. That would be a coup.

Reports that the Patriots want to trade out of round 1

Plus

Reports that the Jaguars want to trade back up into round 2

Equals

Theoretical possibility that the Patriots could end up drafting at #36, instead of #32

@JayGlazer: La'el Collins had been flying up draft board all week into 10-15 range and now teams have no idea what to do w him

@ChrisHansenNFL: So if La'el Collins is undraftable, but he's later exonerated, some team is going to get a free 1st rounder?

It makes it, unfortunately, more likely that a guy like TJ Clemmings (my top pick at #32) or Cameron Erving won't be available at the Patriots pick.

Interesting point, I hadn't thought of the option and the actual importance of it. It makes the pick more valuable and keeping it more meaningful.

If you put all these savings in the calculator it basically pays a guy like Edelman. Ok that all these contracts expired or will expire in different moments in time but as a basic math exercise it serves to illustrate. A smart business guy like BB will never ignore the possibility of savings in this cap hell era. In any given year it can actually save some good 3 or 4 Mi that will keep an important player on the roster. If he had to break the bank for a guy like McCourthy last year or Solder this year it changes the picture completely in terms of roster spots, free agency and draft.

By the way I don't remember they picking the option for McCourthy but since he was drafted in 2010 I'm assuming they did.

I think they will use the 1st round pick if one of their players on their board is there and even if it's not their binkies but it's a player with potential to be a starter. Only if no one they like is available then I can see BB trading out and the offers will not be anything special.

Hoping Deus has another go at BB during this draft only for it to backfire in his face down the road again.

Collins was a horrible pick...

WOnder how far Ray will fall..i am guessing 2nd

Depends. If both Gurley and Gordon are off the board by the time Dallas picks, I don't see Ray falling past them.

Here is my thoughts about the draft:

BB just pick winners............
BB, I want us to continue to have the success you have brought to my team....
I have been a fan and STH since 1960, fans now not STH, so I know bad, I don't want to see bad anymore...........
I like winning.........Thanks BB
BB good luck with the draft............

BTW, I know nothing about who to draft.........

Open question to everyone:

I'd be excited if we took him but how would we use him? We are already 3 deep at DE, and 3 deep at LB when just two usually play.

How would BB use this 230 lb. pass rusher? Seems interesting.

Now that's what I call posting!

@WEEI: Adam Schefter on MFB: ‘I would be surprised if the Patriots didn’t trade out of [No.] 32? http://t.co/QBUOqeivz9

I just want to say, for purely selfish reasons, that I hope they don't. Or, if they do, I hope they trade up. Nothing worse than waiting hours for my team to pick only to have them peace out the round entirely.

I can't wait to log on here and see how many people truly get upset that they traded the pick..always fun

THose of you staying up hoping the pats pick...don't hold your breath

The elephant role would be my guess. I can't see Gregory falling past Green Bay, though... much less out of the first round.

EDIT: He's two inches taller and around the same weight as Kam Chancellor and ran a 4.65 40. It's a shame he doesn't have a whole wealth of experience in coverage or he'd make a pretty intriguing safety conversion.

This is why I do other stuff and just have the draft tracker on my phone going.

Bill Burr has a pretty good standup bit about the futility of watching the NFL draft. I may ape your idea this year, unless I really have nothing else to do tonight.

It was a 5 year deal. The 5th year option is part of the new CBA.

I think i am the only one here who loves the NHL playoffs and watches every game possible. only 2 games tonight however....

Just feel obligated to note that if there was some consistency by the modes, this thread would be on the draft board. Just sayin'
