Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

Lets trade some late rounds picks and get a solid 2 rounder. We don't need all these late round picks

BB just said on NFLN that, "we're willing to sit out the second round for Wes Welker." Don't expect any more trades until #91 rolls along.

Re: Official 2007 Patriots Draft Thread

Based on the BB interview notes Pats1 posted in the main forum, he liked Meriweather's versatility. If we see him play more at CB then Safety, #24 makes more sense as far as how I assess value.

Even if SF makes the playoffs, I'd still be surprised if their record puts them at #28 in next year's draft.

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

you know what im hoping..that we traded because we have an extension with Samuel coming up which takes a little pressure off the draft

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I'm with you, I just don't buy the argument that one year's draft is any better than another. This isn't like the NBA where only 60 or so players get drafted and they change the rules and one year all 18 year olds need to wait for the next draft.

The only way this trade is going to pay off is if the Niners have a terrible season and even that you need to balance against not having a young player a year earlier.

One factor can be how many underclassmen enter the draft the previous year. If a lot of the top underclassmen enter the draft, it dilutes the pool of seniors the following year. Also, sometimes teams that generally have a lot of players who are draft high in the draft have a lot of turnover one year and the next year they don't have many players entering the draft because the players who took over the starting roles still have another year of eligibility.

There are other reasons and sometimes the above factors don't factor into it all that much, but there are many reasons why one draft is better than another.

Michael Smith just said that the Eagles really wanted Meriweather.

they really wanted Griffin/Meriweather..both gone. They moved back to 36 and now selected

Kolb..wow bad pick

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

Ohh oh. Kevin Kolb to Philly. Watching his highlights it seems he has a terrible release. Vince Young can get away with it because he can run. Not sure how fast Kolb is.

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

I am sure BB&SP has something going on....You really think they are just going to sit the 2nd round.....

Kolb is a mobile QB..i like him but Eagles really didnt need him..they had Houston .. Weddle.. Jarrett..Harris on board..all which can help them but they take a QB :\

I hope so, I might sleep if we dont have one in the next 60 picks...

I also have many (too many). This draft, I wasn't able to focus on creating any sort of Pats prospects list worthy of submitting. I still have over 100+ prospects that need weeding out. If I knew today would unfold the way it did (slow and uneventful), I would've had the time to do some weeding, but instead sat here and focused on round one. Oh well, maybe I'll attempt to create a day two list instead.

Thoughts?
I still have Brian Robison, DeAndre Jackson, Dante Rosario, and Craig Dahl who are pretty much second day grades, as well as Kevin Boss, A.J. Davis, and maybe even Josh Wilson who could slide to and through round three on my list in the Flying Fungi/patchick pick 10 and get lucky with one game.

As for second day values, there are some really good kids to consider at S, WR, TE, OT, OC/OG, and even CB or LB. DT, QB, and RB are thin. Taking a RB in round 3 might be the best use of #91.

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

The worst part about trading out of 28 and not getting a 2nd round pick is that we Pats fans have to suffer watching all the talent going to other teams. 60 some odd picks.... *sigh*

Why not? They have been so active in FA they need to take a break. This year's draft will probably be one of the most boring because of it.

SD takes Weddle...

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I'm amazed how many people are second guessing or otherwise complaining about the trade. Face it, Belioli know more about the players than you do. They know more about the offensive/defensive schemes than you. They know more about what is available, and what makes for a good deal than you do. They have vastly more pertinent information at their disposal than you. If it was better for the team to make a pick, they'd have made a pick! They only took an 8-8 team and turned it into the only dynasty of the free agent era, a feat deemed impossible before they proved otherwise. I think they have a clue or two about how this all works.

yep. good pick..he can play CB/Safety like Meriweather..hes around ball and makes plays aswell. good pick

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

The Eagles do a lot better with mobile QBs in their system. Of the QBs available at that point Kolb best fit the mold. They probably could have waited longer to take him tho.

Comments like this show a lot of class on your part..

It's just the reality of the situation. Gore is injury prone.
