Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

Buffalo takes Poz.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

So, you think the equivalent of a Mid 2nd round pick and a mid 4th round pick should be more than enough to move to the #28 spot in the 1st round?

You do realize that the Cowboys moved from the 4th spot in the 2nd round to the 26th spot in the 1st round at a cost of a mid 3rd and mid 5th, right?

Sorry, This deal is terrible no matter how you slice it.

I think the time value of draft picks is ridiculously discounted. Trades for future picks are commonly good.

Obviously, this is a bet on where the 49ers will pick. If they go to the Super Bowl it may not be optimal.

But a lot could go wrong for them too. E.g., if the Browns do better than the 49ers, then the Pats got a better deal than the Cowboys did for trading out of the 1st -- even though the 'Boys rightly got a great deal because of superslider Quinn. That's not all that likely -- but Quinn WAS a superslider, so it's OK that they probably did better.

Re: Offical 2007 2nd round DICUSSION

Poz seems like a good fit for Buffalo.

Re: Offical 2007 2nd round DICUSSION

i thought Houston would be there pick. Poz is an alright pick though..nice value in 2

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

Lets carry it forward until 2010. Its like having money in the bank that earns zero interest.

Perfect analogy, that's exactly what's bugging me. A 4th is not NEARLY enough "interest." Even a 3rd I could have lived with, but a measley 4th???

Re: Offical 2007 2nd round DICUSSION

I wish we'd trade 1 of our 6ths this year and something for next year so we could get Harris.

Re: Offical 2007 2nd round DICUSSION

BB to be interviewed on NFLN after commerical break.

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

I've never really understood that some drafts are so much better than others. Why? There are a huge number of kids playing every year...why would there be so much variability?

Anyway, any hope of drafting a contributing MLB is pretty much gone...maybe that is deliberate, the pats think that it's so complex that no draftee even a good one like Harris could figure it out. They'd rather get veterans.

I'm a little disappointed in the value they got for it too...why a #4 pick? They must have initiated it, it's almost like SF is doing NE a favor instead of vice versa.
You might not understand it, but the difference between the draft year to year is pretty pronounced. The 49ers are improving, yes, but they're still a very, very shaky team. Basically, we got value for the pick; I'd expect the Niners to stay within that 8-15 range more often than not, and trading a late first rounder in a bad draft should be work trading for a early-to-mid first rounder in an as-of-yet-unknown draft.

Re: Offical 2007 2nd round DICUSSION

Any chance a solid run-stuffing ILB is there for us at #91?

Re: Official 2007 NFL Draft 1st Round Discussion

Dallas was able to hold cleveland's feet to the fire for Quinn. i'm sure all that they had to say was "Well, we don't HAVE to make this deal and KC is right behind us on the board and we KNOW they have been on the phone with Quinn." Cleveland gave up what they had to give up for that pick. I would assume the Baltimore-Pats deal was much the same back in 2003(?).

Hell hath no fury like an internet mockers board scorned.

A 2nd round discussion thread is now open.

I'm with you, I just don't buy the argument that one year's draft is any better than another. This isn't like the NBA where only 60 or so players get drafted and they change the rules and one year all 18 year olds need to wait for the next draft.

The only way this trade is going to pay off is if the Niners have a terrible season and even that you need to balance against not having a young player a year earlier.

Re: Official 2007 Patriots Draft Thread

Happily, I still have about 6 potential day two possibilities.

I also have many (too many). This draft, I wasn't able to focus on creating any sort of Pats prospects list worthy of submitting. I still have over 100+ prospects that need weeding out. If I knew today would unfold the way it did (slow and uneventful), I would've had the time to do some weeding, but instead sat here and focused on round one. Oh well, maybe I'll attempt to create a day two list instead.

Thoughts?

Yes. Anthony Waters, Zak DeOssie, Justin Warren, and Desmond Bishop.

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

man..i still cant believe we moved away from Harris..Houston..WRight..Wilson. i dont approve of the trade much

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

Lets trade some late rounds picks and get a solid 2 rounder. We don't need all these late round picks

Re: Offical 2007 NFL Draft 2nd Round Discussion

i wish he would just say that he is targeting a ILB in the third or something. I know he cant, but i wish he could secretly tell us.
