Woody Johnson Clear Cut Tampered Re: Revis

Last I checked, Revis is still playing for New England this year right now (I know the playoffs are a confusing and foreign concept to Woody), and he is still under contract next season as well, sooo....

Report that ass indeed, Bob.

I just realized that taking away a draft pick might actually be effective now that Idzik isn't around to waste them. Today is a sad day.

With all due respect, I am not sure how this is tampering.
Right in the NFL's Anti-Tampering Policy:
Public/Private Statements
Any public or private statement of interest,
qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or
representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of this AntiTampering
Policy. (Example of a prohibited comment: “He’s an excellent
player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another
club holds his rights.”)
All clubs should be aware that improper disclosure of
confidential trade discussions with another club may be a violation of this
section on prohibited public statements.

Then you don't know what tampering is.

If this is tampering then the NFL rules really need to be overworked because that is ridiculous.

He didn't contact Revis or his agent, he didn't make any offer to anyone but simply expressed that he would love to have a player back with his team. If he would have said that they will do everything possible to get Revis back to the Jets it would be a different story. Can we be reasonable for a change ?

There was no reason for Johnson to bring Revis' name up. The fact that he didn't - as far as we know - contact Revis or his agent directly, make an offer, or more emphatically state his desire to sign Revis is irrelevant. The fact that Revis' season is not over makes the comment worse.

As an owner he should be more aware of the rules and more aware of the impact of his statements.

The problem is, Woody isn't being reasonable. The owner of the Patriots biggest rival is using the media to signal a soon to be free agent Revis and his agents that he is willing to use the Jets cap space to sign him.

Woody is also doing this just as the Patriots enter the playoffs, which is sure to create questions being asked to Revis, thus creating a outside distraction by none other than the Jets owner.

That is the rule and it is reasonable. You can't make public overtures to a player under contract because it can influence how that player will interact with his existing team. For instance if Revis had previously been rebuked by the Jets prior to signing with the pats knowing that Woody now feels differently may effect his willingness to cut a new deal with the Pats or at least at a given price. This is pretty blatant tampering.
