Pats D: A Brick Wall in the Second Half?

So what's it like being a fan who only started watching football after the 2007 and 2011 super bowls?
Not sure what you mean there buddy.
Teams without an offense rarely win championships.

ive saying it for years, and at times in the past it wasn't well recieved

That's too bad. I'm sorry I wasn't here then to help.

It's difficult to come up with a clear view sometimes. The 20-17 and 17-14 games are easy.

Last year the Seahawks scored a ton of points but it might have been their defense that won it. What about the Ravens win over the 49ers? The score was 35-31 but the game was won on a goal line stand at the end. The Steelers 27-23 win came on a great catch as time ran out. Was that a win for the offense or defense?

One major thing I go by is what I've seen with our team. When we won it all it was mostly due to our defense, not our offense. In the years that we've had a high powered offense we have been taken out by teams with lesser offenses but better defenses.

I should have read this before I posted my response to reflex.

Those rarities aren't that rare. Both times the Pats lost to the Giants comes to mind right away.

Stating the obvious but I think great teams win championships by making plays when the absolutely have to. If you look lack at the Pats' SB titles, in 01 their D collapsed in the 4th qtr and the O picked it up. Same deal vs CAR two years later. Vs Philly I think it was mostly the D. I think that characterization holds true for pretty much every close SB ever played.

I love the way the Patriots D has played in second halves but they are really going to have to start better when the playoffs roll around. A slow start in a big game could end their season unceremoniously.

The giants won those games with long td drives in the 4th quarter.
Using a 35-31 game to argue defense wind championships illustrates how weak the argument is. A defense without an offense wins no more than an offense without a defense. Typically you need both.

3.2 pts per allowed (1 TD & 3 FG) (No points allowed in the last 2 games)

Went back and did the points allowed in the 2nd half since the Cincinnati game which is a 10 game span

8.8 points per 2nd half allowed.
11 TD/3 FG

And 5 of the TDs were blowout garbage time TDs. 1 against the Bengals when it was 34-10 and Revis was off the field, 2 against the Bears and 2 against the Broncos..

6* TDs allowed in the 2nd half when the game was still a game

*There are a couple that could be argued while the score and time say it was when the game was still a game it really wasn't.

Bengals- It was 20-3 and Sanu's TD made it 20-10. Pats scored 2 TDs within 5 minutes later and it's 34-10
Bills- It was 30-14. They score to make it 33-20 with 5 minutes to go. Pats kill the game off with a long drive making the victory never in doubt.
