He said that Shaughnessy's column this week about John Farrell was a lazy dump job simply taking a transcript and writing it in paragraph form. I remember chatting years ago with a man who used to be a Pats fan but followed Parcells out when he left here. I heard just a snippet but it was hilarious. He said he figured 'it took 10 minutes to write the column, and all it was missing was a Stockbridge to Boston reference, a Beatles lyric and something about the Sons of Bill Belichick'.

I like CHB better than most folks do, but that's only because he did a favor for a stranger to him who happens to be my sister-in-law.

He's certainly from a generation of Globe sportswriters hired for their writing ability rather than their reporting or analytic skills.

Curly Haired Boyfriend. Crazy Red Sox outfielder Carl Everett famously dubbed Shank with that name. Everett, who was legitimately nuts, went on a post-game rant and asked another reporter about Shank not being present, "Where's your curly-haired boyfriend?"
