I'm gonna be optimistic and say that both play for NE together for at least 4 seasons. McCourty will get a Mayo/Ninko timed extension and Revis before the offseason begins, tying up about 20-22m/year AAV (somewhere between 8/12 to 9/13 for DMC/DR respectively) between the two.

It is a lot of money, but its also not as nuts as Seattles secondary cap allocations, but if and when they perform like we expect them to, solidifying a top 5 pass defense, they will be worth it.

I'm hoping that we get McCourty locked up fairly soon. Once the season hits I think the odds lessen, although there have been cases where it gets done.

The question with revis is going to be how much Logan Ryan, dennard and browner show together. With us having some cbs doing ok as rookies I think this will he interesting with revis.

We all love revis already, but is it worth to take money from other positions for him, or let him go and upgrade multiple positions?

It will tough because I expect McCourty to have a stellar yeah (similar to his rookie season, but playing S obviously) and a big part of that impact will be Revis being able to control his side of the field. Ultimately it's team defense, but when you have such a chess piece as Revis on the board, it will free up everyone else to be more effective. But that's what the great ones do, allow people to elevate their game.

That's simple. Because he is under contract. I know it was a dummy year which IMO does two things stretches the first year hit out over 2 and basically gives us exclusive negotiating rights before he supposed to be able to weigh other offers.

Might this wind up a one year deal? For sure. But the deal was structured in a way that if both parties want year two no other team can get involved or it would be tampering (yes I know this is a minor deterrent at best).

I really, really wish the two sides would have struck a long term deal this offseason. It's hard to see the Pats giving up that kind of coin, even to the best CB in the game (when healthy). Not saying it can't or won't happen, just hard to see it.

I'd say that he clearly has the upper hand for being the home grown talent, but if the negotiations get difficult, it's anyone's guess. Belichick doesn't stray too far from his beliefs just as well.

If they don't get McCourty done by the offseason, then I think an argument can be made that Revis may end up being more important--even if that isn't necessarily true.

If it comes to it, the franchise tag at safety is MUCH lower than at CB.

Revis is going to get paid by someone. I just hope it's the Patriots. As I was saying during free agency, you're better off paying a couple extra million per year for the elite talent than trying to get by with guys a tier or two below for lesser money. A top end CB is worth the money, I think.

I 100% agree. Wish it was longer but nothing we can do now. Just enjoy this season with him and hope they keep him

Sup, the Patriots have been very successful in keeping the players they really want to keep. Revis can get big big money and the Patriots can construct an offer to keep him here if they really want to get it done. Revis experience in NE is going to play a role in that decision so we will see if he is one and done or not.

Thats not really accurate though. They can afford anyone but they cannot afford everyone.
If they do not resign him it is because they feel the money is better used elsewhere, and after doing so they can no longer afford him.
If there wasn't a cap, they would certainly keep him, so affordability is clearly the issue.

The Money wont be a issue IF this years safety/corner group Works out. Arrinton should be cut and Dennard, Ryan, Harmon and Wilson are all playing on rookie contracts. I could even see them pay Revis 20m IF this Works out - just to keep him for 2 more years.

So ESPN has a poll on their front page that has Revis 3rd in a poll of who's the best CB? i say anything that can light a fire for Revis is a good thing.

From what I understand, they'll have to make a decision before the end of the year (possibly league year), so I don't really see the relevance. Obviously, Revis structured the deal so that he would be in the mix at the free agency period and the Pats can't "sit" on his deal before making their decision. He'd have to be a moron to do it otherwise.

Obviously, they aren't going to pay a 25 million dollar cap hit, so either they reach a long term deal with major money or they don't. No one has any idea as to whether or not their offer will be enough for him.
