75 Hours To the Dustin Keller Signing?

I got it!!!! Let's talk a retired all pro Tight End into coming back. It's gonna take me hours to get all the metrics, obstetrics, pathetrics and lunatrics compiled but THIS is the obvious way to deal with this problem...and if you disagree with me about ANYTHING, realize you're better than that and I'm always right.

=======================================================================
Antonio Gates
Mark Bavaro
Tony Gonzalez
Dave Casper
Jackie Smith
Ozzie Newsome
Shannon Sharpe
Mike Ditka
Kellen Winslow
John Mackey

I have concluded that we should cut Amendola, exhume the corpse of John Mackey and sign him to an incentive laden contract (you know, in case he stinks or something).

I appreciate your hard work and dedication in coming up with this list, but I truly don't see more than a couple of potential options to be honest with you.

Even then, we'd probably have different opinions on who we'd all want. I would strongly consider a guy like Jacob Tamme or Lance Kendricks, but are they really in danger of being cut?

The majority of the other players are probably either going to make it, have already been here, or don't have much to offer (in my opinion, of course).
Some could be available via trade.

There's a note on DJ Willians on Reiss blog, I'm really glad to read this:

"After last year, I fell into that whole trap, even being very successful in college football --winning the Mackey Award -- and feeling on top of my game, I got really comfortable. Success kind of started helping me contribute to hurt myself," Williams told co-hosts Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on the "Afternoon Drive" program.

"I started feeling comfortable enough when I was going through getting cut, blaming it on 'They just paid their draft pick $15 million' or 'I just pulled a hamstring just when it was my chance to take over.' I started seeing how those became excuses and started to realize that the only person that could dictate any of my outcomes is myself. Every day has been a complete competition with myself. My mom texts me and she's like, 'Did they draft a tight end? Are they going to bring in somebody else?' It really doesn't matter because the person I need to beat every single day is D.J. Williams. That's been my approach every day and it's been working out great."

I think that the patriots might value Williams more than posters seem to think. Sure, I want veteran competition/upgrade, same as everyone else. However, the status quo of Williams as the the move TE may be an acceptable Plan B to Belichick, as well as having LaFell in that role at times.

And yes, I understand that we also have UDFA's competing at TE.

Homer! :D

I'm going with that until camp rather than kvetch about stuff I cannot control.

They have some 6'8 FA in camp

I think Williams needs to get on the field. Missing OTAs with an injury is not helping his cause at all.

Williams so far: all talk, no action. I've read similar scripts too many times to place any faith in them.

Gronk is on pace to play week 1.

Sept. 7th will be the eight month mark from the date of the surgery, and another injury fueled setback would go a long way towards steering Gronk's career in the total opposite direction. I couldn't imagine what the psychological negatives would do to him, let alone all of the talk that would come with it. There's also a pretty significant contract bonus at stake for both parties, so that's something to keep an eye on as well.

Even Adrian Peterson, who set the bar with his 9 month return, is a rare case. If you're seriously expecting Gronk to somehow top that under his specific history and circumstances, then my fear is that you very well may end up disappointed.

Anything in the first 3-4-5 games will be a blessing in my eyes. I'm not doubting the beast that is Rob Gronkowski, I am just looking at something a bit more realistic from my perspective.

EDIT: the link below is about Peterson's 9 month return and how he's set the bar for quickest returns

I guess you can look at it one of two ways, it is great that Williams recognized he needed to get his act together, or you could ask why he ever let himself get that way to begin with. Aaron Hernandez said something similar about “falling off” once he got paid in one of his jail house letters, self-recognition is great and all but I prefer players that remain focused at all times.

I like Williams as a talent, he is actually faster vertically than Hernandez was, he had an extremely productive college career, but much like his equally as productive Arkansas teammate Jake Bequette it has not translated to the NFL.

Justin Jones is an interesting player. He pro day showed a player that is explosive in some aspects and below average and others.

Height: 6076
Weight: 274
40 Yard Dash: 4.90
20 Yard Dash: 2.79
10 Yard Dash: 1.72
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 22
Vertical Jump: 37
Broad Jump: 09'05"
20 Yard Shuttle: 4.60
3-Cone Drill: 6.88

Rob Gronkowski ran the 10-yard split in 1.58 seconds, that is significantly faster than Jones, yet Jones ran the 3-cone drill in 6.88 and Gronkowski did it in 7.18. It surprises me that he can move so well one direction and not the other, well the surprising part is that it is lateral being the superior ability.

I'm not that high on Willians, I don't know why but I have this impression that he's afraid of contact, maybe I read somewhere.

Anyway sometimes we need to kick our own ass to get out of the comfort zone, it's nice when someone recognize this, specially a young player, I see people going to their 30's thinking everything is all right when it's not even close..

you have a fair point but from the pictures in OTA's an minicamp he's already doing some work.

I think he will be 100% cleared and ready to go, but some extra caution won't hurt.

I think I am better than people are. HA

- I wrote to you 4-5 times on PM to try to end this feud, you ignored all of them.
- I wished you a happy New Year, you did not even say thank you.
- Nuts asked us both to put each other on ignore, I did it, what did you do you began following me instead.

Let me get this completely straight, you insult me every chance you get because I do not share the same opinion as you about a football player. You ignore my attempts to end the animosity between us. You ignore my wishing you a happy new year. You completely ignore the request of a moderator and actually do the complete opposite of what he requested. Yeah I am the one who is full of myself, that is priceless.

Actually, I read that a while ago and it sounded good, then I read it again and it sounded like, 'I was full of myself, for no logical reason before, but now I'm going to take this seriously. No, really, I am.' Not an actual quote, but the sentiment isn't encouraging. Time to prove it.

I'm hoping they sign Keller. I really liked Justin Jones from ECU, but a lot of reports of him dropping passes in drills. BB will not put up with that, and if keeps it up his days are numbered with the Pats

Here is where I dont get you. Joker posted something I guess you did not like (an Amendola joke or whatever). You posted a pic and called him an internet tough guy or whatever. This was Monday. It seemed to be done. He made a post and you responded.

Now you try to ignite this again by responding again a couple days later because he did not respond to your tough guy image. Its as if you want to be in this type of drama then you complain about it being in it..

And you wonder why people dont take you serious and think you are a whack job.

Yeah well look in the other threads where Joker has said the same exact thing since Monday, matter of fact he just posted something about 15 minutes ago. Joker trolls me every single day, it is all he does he makes dumb comments and rates anyone who disagrees with me as a “winner”.

Whack job, you sure do make a lot of slights towards people with mental illnesses, I try and give you the benefit of the doubt, I really do but honestly you just want to beef with me, I mean 23 of your last 30 posts are you quoting something I said. Do you want to hang out or something I mean really, I post a lot, but at least it is not always to the same freaking member.
