End of 2013 league year cuts, signings, trades, voids, etc...

C'mon, admit it. Regardless of the final outcome for either team, it would be a hoot if BB got into a real FA signing war with ol' HeeHaw out in Denver, instead of doing the bottom feeding thing. Seeing the surly one and the horseface both loading up their teams for (at least relatively) short time periods would make the offseason a blast.

Hopefully Elway disgruntles one of his players enough for him to sign a reasonable deal with us that Denver won't match .

It would also be totally great if Denver totally mortgaged the future to give Manning a ring , only to fall in the divisional round of next years playoff, thereby depriving the mediots of another obnoxious Brady v. Manning story.

ideally, cut wilfork connolly, and possibly Arrington, and mankins vollmer and mayo should restructure, resign dane Fletcher, sign or draft to stud cbs(verner, drc, talib etc), sign lamarr Houston or Justin tuck, draft Weston richburg, Austin Seferian Jenkins, aaron Donald, Christian jones, let Wendell walk. all this in a perf world

qb brady
rb Vereen and poss ridley or blount or sproles
wr amendola Dobson kt boyce slater
te hooman gronk asf
ot seabass solder
og cannon mankins or our cheap guys like kline
oc marcus martin braxston cave or Weston
de nink chandler Buchanan
dt siliga Houston armstead
cb ryan verner drc green or fuller gaines verrett for example
lb mayo hightower Collins fletcher
s mccourty harmon ebner ??

Mankins is overpaid, and mayo might be. all this obvi imo

I liked Cory Grissom as a UDFA pick up. Shame he never got a chance to show what he can do. But thems the breaks I suppose.

It's a shame that some/many of these signings haven't worked out, especially when you look at the amounts of money that they are spending every year.

It definitely disputes the notion that they are cheap, that's for sure. As Reiss points out, in 2010 and 2012 they were 2nd out of 32 teams in cash spending.

in past years when they had more then 10 draft picks each year they really did not need to sign 5 or 6 mid level and jag players they could have just signed one or two good players not brake the bank type guys but a good pass rusher or a good center or RG

I'd wait to see what the entire picture looks like, or else you'll end up replicating your demise of Baltimore's defense predictions from last year. The truth is that even after all of the offseason threads and posts about how horrid Baltimore would be on that side of the ball due to their losses on paper, they actually got better by replacing them with an upgrade in talent in many areas by the time the season started.

I can't seriously look at Denver's offense with Demarius Thomas, Julius Thomas, Peyton Manning, and Wes Welker and claim that they're going to suddenly take a huge downward trend. They may not end up setting records again, but there's absolutely no reason whatsoever that they won't be one of the most potent offenses in the game still. Even if they would somehow lose 10 points per game average on offense, they'd still be scoring in the high 20's every game.

The loss of Decker and some OL changes are terribly overrated. Manning has the quickest release time of any QB in the game, and plenty of weapons left to throw to. One can assume that just about anyone can step in and be reasonably productive in Decker's spot with the other weapons that they have. On top of that RB Montae Ball was an awesome RB in college, and had been groomed all of last season to be the starter. He's a 2nd round pick for crying out loud.

I never predicted the demise of the Ravens defense or they would suck . I said a lot of the pieces they added were overrated especially by people on this board and for the most part I was right. People were gushing over guys like Rolando McClain, Matt Elam, Marcus Spears, and Chris Canty as huge additions to their defense. I never said the Ravens defense would be bad. I figured it would be average and not good enough to make the Ravens a playoff team. I was countering the crowd who said the Ravens are a strong Super Bowl contender with that defense and it would be a heck of a lot better than the 2012 defense. I never thought thought the Ravens would be much better than .500 and would miss the playoffs all together.

The fact of the situation is the Ravens' defense wasn't that much better than the defense in 2012 and that defense was average. The 2013 Ravens defense was slightly above average. And it certainly wasn't good enough to get the Ravens to even a winning record. And their defense fell apart when they absolutely needed to win one of the last two games and may have been overrated based on the weak offenses they faced last season. If I remember correctly, you thought the Ravens were going to be a top defense in the league and they weren't even close.

I am not guaranteeing a downward trend for the Broncos, but to say there is no reason whatsoever to believe they aren't going to be one of the most potent teams offenses in the NFL is a little silly. Decker was a 1288 yard, 11 TD receiver last year. That is a lot of production to replace. Manning is going to be 38 and his arm strength from 2012 to 2013 was a significant drop. If he has a similar or worse drop this year, it could really affect his production. Welker is going to be 33, showed signs of slowing down before his concussions last year and was a shell of himself after. He may never rebound. If the Broncos had the 2012 Welker and Manning, I would agree with you. But 2014 versions of both players are unknowns.

I was far more right about the Ravens than you seem to give me credit for, I was unimpressed with their additions for the most part and these additions did not perform nearly as well as you and others expected. I will probably be far more right about the Broncos than you are giving me credit for now. I don't expect them to fall off the cliff, but they could be significantly worse on offense which would still make them a good, possibly very good offense. But let's not pretend that there aren't questions with that group considering age and wear and tear of key players.

For players other than their own, they seem to approach it the same way they do the draft: volume.

So they'll trade back to get more picks, and in FA, wait and pick up a bunch at below market price.

The difference though it that the draft, other than the top few, really is a crap shoot - will his body hold up in the NFL? Can he adjust to the speed of the game? Has he got the work ethic needed? How will he do against strictly top-level talent?

FA, not so much. These are proven players. So while you should take a shot or two with a Wilson and a Kelly, it'd be real nice to get an impact player every now and then.

Take Avril and Bennett off the Seahawks (11.5 million in signings last year) and they don't get to the Superbowl.

Adam Vinatieri back to IND:

Adam Schefter ?@AdamSchefter 7m
Colts re-signed veteran K Adam Vinatieri to a two-year deal, per source.

Mike Jones @MikeJonesWaPo Source says the #Redskins and WR Andre Roberts have agreed to a deal.

WHO?? Mike Jones!

Take Vince, Mayo, and Kelly off Ir and the patriots probably play in the superbowl.

the team came in third last year, Its hard to hate on the Front office too badly when you are 1 game away from the superbowl.

There are those on this board who give it a damn good shot.

I don't hate on the front office at all.

I do hope they do something bigger this year in FA, though, because I think they've got very pressing needs at positions that can be quickly filled in FA (DL, OL, TE, DB) as opposed to last year, where almost every FA WR signing was a relative bust around the league.

Arthur Jones has made up his mind about where he's playing next year, from this tweet. And Chandler Jones knows where it will be:

Chandler Jones ?@Chan95Jones 24m
Today should be fun! Glued to the TV all day to see what happens with my brother @Artj97 ...LETS GO ART!
Arthur Jones ?@Artj97 18m
@Chan95Jones hahah I like how your playing dumb!!! Like you don't know where I'm going!!! Haha smh Keep your mouth close

I'd guess the Colts for Art Jones but those Tweets back & forth are giving me a little hope he will be suiting up next to his brother next season!
