Would he go through the waiver process or is that not pplicable at this time of year? If he does, and you want him, its worth it to trade. There are many teams who have excess cap room and would love to spend it on a straight salary rather than paying signing bonusses to drive up cash over cap. Those teams could keep him one year and cut him if they wish at no cost.
I did read up about waivers/Free Agency (regarding seasons accrued versus status) elsewhere but I don't feel I am competent enough to give you an honest answer to what you're asking Andy.

I'm sure a more educated NFL procedural person would be a better source.

5/50m with 40m guaranteed? That's more in line and "fair" with what other top CBs are getting.

Could someone please explain to me what happens to his 6 year/$96million deal that he signed?

At this moment, none of it is guaranteed. If someone trades for him, they're obligated to one year of 16m. If he is cut, the contract vanishes into thin air.

there was no guarentees. it was a deal for something like 16 mil a year, each year. no bonuses, no incentives.

he had to earn every penny and the team could cut him at any point

...because there are no waivers for vested veterans between Feb. 1 and the trading deadline.

Thanks guys ^

Anyway, I really hope the Patriots make a serious run at getting Revis. Talib is great, but his injury problems aren't worth it at all. Let him go to Washington.

Blank slate.

However, regarding Darrelle Revis new contract demands:

Which would you prefer

1. Trade for Revis (2nd or 3rd), be on the hook for 16m per season but only committed on a year by year basis?

2. Wait until he is cut, sign him then to a contract that will probably be less per year but will no doubt include a lot more in guaranteed money?

with the projected future cap escalation, #2, easily

Or this option mentioned by Jason Cole

Btw, #Bucs have unilateral right to guarantee any or all of Revis' contract this year to reduce his cap number.

why wouldn't Mevis's old team sign him back?

they already cut the Cropregnater...Milliner is a bust...Mevis fits the Cryan defense like a glove...custom made for all the brainndead green Jersey mooks to cry "he was always a TRUE Jet!!! OG OG OG!!!"...and the Rats have plenty of cap.

she's the hat check girl at Rocco's Rump Room , that strip joint in Springfield ,Mass.

A relative of Incarcerated Bob, no doubt.

She works for NBC here in DC. I think it's a relatively decent rumor since she likely has ties to the Redskins, who were the team rumored to be pushing for Talib hard. Far more credible a source than Incarcerated Bob. But take it for what it's worth until he's signed.
