If this article is accurate the Amendola being cut rumors are most likely nothing but just that rumors that will never happen.
Danny Amendola Won't Be Cut - Pats Pulpit
I don't buy into the rumors that the Pats will cut or trade Amendola, but this is a big "Huh?!?". So you cannot designate a players as a June 1 cut unless he is still on your roster in September?!?
Someone call Doc Brown and ask them to reserve the DeLorean for mid September so Belichick can go back and use the the cap savings for cutting Amendola in Spetember and designating him as a June 1st cut at the start of free agency.
Seriously, how does this make any sense. In order to make a player a June 1st cut to get salary cap relief in the current NFL year by cutting him before June 1st, you have to carry him until September. And if teams have to carry a player on the roster to get the June 1st cap relief of spreading dead money over two years, why have a June 1st designation where the team gets the cap relief on June 1st? Should it be a September 15th designation?
More stellar reporting by Albert Breer. Unless there is specific language in Amendola's contract which I doubt, I think Breer is out of his mind.
I do think it is ironic that the NFL employs a sports writer who doesn't understand the fundamental of one of the most basic rules of the CBA like the June 1st designation. Hell, my 10 year old niece could figure out that that if you designate a player as a June 1st cut, that they would not be on the roster in September when the football season begins.
