Greg Schiano to join as LB coach??

I'll make the same comment as I did in the draft thread. Namely that if Schiano's presence negatively impacts the Pats' ability to resign Talib, I don't think it's worth it. Given the glowing praise that Talib has given about the NE atmosphere versus Tampa's, I think it just may.

I disagree..... I don't see Talib as being all that. in general, the pats defense has not been any better with him here.......and he has finished both of his seasons here with injuries

schiano likely learned an important lesson from the way things turned out in tampa....

they're supposed to be professionals......if schiano's presence turns talib into a brooder, then maybe talib doesn't belong here

As long as Schiano doesn't teach Zone concepts, i'm fine with it.

The fact that Belichick has gone out of his way to call owners and organizations and vouch for his buddies, and now throwing lifelines and getting them gigs within the Pats when they are left with no better option, shows the loyalty BB has for his friends.

Mangini really f#ck3d up and he burned that bridge.

Mangini got 2 head coaching gigs, got to rest while making money in TV, and is now back coaching for the 49ers.

He's doing ok without that bridge.

On one hand, it's never a bad thing when you can add a guy who was a head coach last year as a position coach. Even bad head coaches typically got the job for a reason, and the reason tends to be that they were really good at the jobs they had before that.

That said, after seeing how badly Schiano handled the locker room in Tampa, and how miserable of a job he did with Revis, I dunno about him.

Figured I should follow it up with a little more insight other than just "he's an idiot". I posted this over in the draft forum a few minutes ago...

Or he understood the talent on his roster better than you do.

Under Schiano, Rutgers (yes, a big east team) finished three years running in the country's top 20 defensive teams.

On a similar note. The Godfather part 2 is 40 years old this week.

love that ending.

We are without a LB Coach after Pepper Johnson was fired. IDK about Schiano though.

I watched Schiano coach Rutgers for 10 years. He really sucks. I mean, I was trembling at the thought of his landing either job at two schools that I follow, Penn State and UConn. If he isn't fit to coach UConn, he's not fit to coach the Patriots. I'd rather have Talib for only 8 games a year than go anywhere near Schiano.

UConn isn't exactly known for their great choice in coaching personel

They're 1-1. Edsall did an excellent job there. He actually put more players in the NFL than any other BE coach.

I'd take the new guy over Schiano any day of the week.

Schisms strikes me as a massive egomaniac, I doubt there's room for him at Gillette.

I'm having a bit of a hard time buying into this rumor myself, unless the idea is to eventually make him a DC within the next year or so.

Otherwise, Schiano isn't going to be content staying here as the LB coach for very long no matter what (in my opinion).

That's Belichick, Lombardi, and Schiano. Definitely looks like he may be joining the Pats in some capacity this season.

Looking at his past, LB coach doesn't really make much sense to me. He's been a college HC and DC and NFL HC, but all of his position coach experience is with defensive backs. My best guess is some kind of defensive assistant, perhaps also with the assistant head coach title.

Kind of a high profile gathering, who has the camera?

If it does indeed pan out to anything, I certainly wouldn't mind an upgrade in some DB coaching--or at least a change on some level.

I'm still wondering if Matt Patricia shouldn't watch his back in the next couple of years

Little known guy by the name of Matt Estrella. As it states on his business card, he's a "cameraman for every occasion."

Just sign up officially already Greg.
