Schiano's at the Combine with BB; they just showed them on the NFL Network. We'll see if he joins the staff.

NFL net showed him with BB today at the combine.

If it makes talib less likely to stay I hope Schiano stays away

Mangini got 2 head coaching gigs, got to rest while making money in TV, and is now back coaching for the 49ers.

He's doing ok without that bridge.

Well, the former Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator has worked his way all the way back to TE Coach for now.

The only way I see him getting another chance at a Head Coaching position anytime soon is if he, say used his Browns and 49ers connections to leak a story to the press that would undermine Harbaught potentially result in his firing.

It'd be one thing if Mangini had a history of disloyalty to a head coach, but overall I just don't see that happening.

I think the point is tough, it doesn't hurt to have a good bridge with Belichick.

That's Belichick, Lombardi, and Schiano. Definitely looks like he may be joining the Pats in some capacity this season.

Looking at his past, LB coach doesn't really make much sense to me. He's been a college HC and DC and NFL HC, but all of his position coach experience is with defensive backs. My best guess is some kind of defensive assistant, perhaps also with the assistant head coach title.

Also in the IDK camp about Schiano, but I'm not buying your argument to say he isnt coming to be a LB coach.

Looking at BB's past, he tends to move his protogee-coaches around to different positions throughout their tenure with him.* So IMHO this could make COMPLETE sense. Pats have a vacancy; Schiano can round out his resume, and meanwhile BB can take care of a 'friend'.

[*The ONLY guy I can think of offhand he DIDNT do that with is Scar. And Scar was never a BB protogee; but a guy who was too good to fire (through 4 different HC regimes & 2 owners) and too in love w/ OL coaching/disinterested in moving upward to not fight changing positions or to accept a promotion elsewhere.]

There is a difference between virtually done, and completely done, as BB was quoted. He has replaced virtually all his coaching vacancies but one.

We see what you did there

Looks like he might be a Pats consultant this season while staying in Tampa for family reasons, according to this report:

Explaining Greg Schiano's presence with New England Patriots - ESPN

Yeah, I heard on ESPN myself that it's not going to be anything official in terms of an actual position.

It makes sense considering that he and Belichick are friends, etc. Basically, Belichick is just including his thought process and knowledge, which seems sensible enough. Seemed awfully weird that he'd be coming on as only a LB coach, but stranger things have happened...
