Greg Schiano to join as LB coach??

I'll make the same comment as I did in the draft thread. Namely that if Schiano's presence negatively impacts the Pats' ability to resign Talib, I don't think it's worth it. Given the glowing praise that Talib has given about the NE atmosphere versus Tampa's, I think it just may.

He seems to be a good guy, but after all the things I've read I don't want him nowhere near NE.

The fact that Belichick has gone out of his way to call owners and organizations and vouch for his buddies, and now throwing lifelines and getting them gigs within the Pats when they are left with no better option, shows the loyalty BB has for his friends.

Mangini really f#ck3d up and he burned that bridge.

Speculation: Ben Volin says Schiano could be added

There’s a lot of buzz that Greg Schiano could join the #Patriots staff. I’m told he and Belichick were seen hanging out last night in Indy

Just because they're hanging out doesnt mean he's joining coaching staff. With that said I would love to have Schiano added as LB coach. A position coach with head coaching experience and from the same school of thinking. It definitely cant hurt.

I think it would be a good move he seems to rule with a iron first like BB he does have a connection with a lot of our players you know Rutgers and all. If the Patriots do this we could lose Blount and Talib just having him on the team could turn them off even if he isn't directly coaching them.
Interesting to say the least, did Aquib ever publically speak negative on Schiano?

Seems alright to me. Nothing to get super excited about, but a veteran coach is usually a good thing to add, especially since he has a good relationship with BB so there shouldn't be any power balance issues. I also get the feeling he has a generally aggressive philosophy, which is something I wouldn't mind seeing more of in our linebacking group.

I tmakes sense since all we do is draft Rutger players

In his combine presser, BB said the the coaches were pretty much all set. Sounds like there isn't going to be anymore changes.

Schiano has the exact opposite of an aggressive philosophy. I think he's a complete idiot and I don't want him having any part of my favorite teams defensive game plan.

He spoke positively about him, but that just shows he can be diplomatic, I guess.

If Belichick wants someone here I'm fine with that, but I'm not all that gung ho about Schiano's NFL abilities

IMO Schiano's better off returning to the college coaching ranks where he can still have a good career and can provide NFL draft perspective to Belichick on his players as well as those he's studied on film in future drafts.

If giving Schiano a role here for this one season helps him land a better college head coaching job - and thus a channel for better Patriots future draftees - then it's a wise investment, but I'm pretty ambivalent on the contributions he can make to this team.

I don't want any coach that didn't graduate from division 4..... East Dakota College of Humanities and Fracking...........BB has a system....why go off course now.

Figured I should follow it up with a little more insight other than just "he's an idiot". I posted this over in the draft forum a few minutes ago...

The head coach is responsible for tweaking his system based on personnel. That's one of the things that makes BB such a great head coach. The way I see it, Schiano was either (A) too stupid to use the personnel he had at his disposal properly, or (B) had way too much faith in his system. One is totally inexcusable for an NFL head coach and the other is a fault. Either way, I don't want him on the Pats coaching staff. He made his bones off the fact that he is a very good college recruiter (something I will give him credit for) that brought in top end talent against piss poor competition. In Tampa, he made the mistakes that I've already mentioned plus reportedly alienated his locker room. No thanks.

That said, Belichick mentioned in his presser that the coaching staff is all set. So Schiano can go back to college for all I care.

"Well, I think our coaching staff is pretty well set right now, so we'll go forward with it," he said. "I'm glad to have the people that we have. And we'll just see how it all comes together."
-Bill Belichick

Im expecting Bon Jovi to named Assistant Offensive Coordinator any day now.

Nah, Erika Leigh is reporting that Steven Tyler is at the facility and is currently in negotiations.

That would give the Pats the first female coach in the NFL.

Surprised that people are critical of this possibility because Schiano is not a good NFL head coach. The responsibilities of a positional coach are far different than a HQ so any shortcoming he had in TB are irrelevant in my opinion.

I don't think it would be an issue in resigning Talib. Talib is going to the team that offers him the most money. He could care less about who his DB coach is let alone another positional group as long as that guaranteed money is there, especially with his injury history.

Many belabor the BB relationship with his coaching tree that led to Mankins (Fresno State) and Saban / Meyer draftees over several years, not to mention the Rutgers connection and Iowa for what its worth. Interestingly, his best draft picks though seem to be from Michigan, Miami, Colorado, Tennessee, Houston, Kent State and Cal.
