Sudden death, incredible shootout, US wins! Tremendous. If there is a replay of this game, don't miss it. I sure hope these teams meet in the medal round.

Frickin unbelievable. Oshie frickin killed it. Had 2 shots facing elimination if he missed and nailed both

Thanks for the heads up. Actually at work right now trying to catch up on some stuff.

I heard that we got a break on a call and the refs took a goal away from the Commies. They haven't been seen since.

Best Ever? Not even close.

Great f#ck!ing game! Oshie is a stud.

We got a break, but it was the right call. Goal was off the posts.

Not the best ever, only because it's preliminary round and the rival isn't there like it used to be, but the level if hockey and suspense was incredible

Great game. Great win.

Best ever?? I'll take 1980 Lake Placid. That game was one of the great sporting events I've ever seen. The cold war was on, Democracy vs Communism, professional Russian players vs American college kids. An amazing game. Still gives me and millions of other Americans the chills and always will.

Seriously I couldn't agree with you anymore.. to say any game is better than 1980 is crazy..

I'm not sure it's even theoretically possible to top that game.

There will never be another upset in sports that will top USA beating the Soviets in 1980. Ever.

Fully agree. Great win, but these guys are pros. This wasn't the "Best Ever". In fact, this would rank behind the Sweden, Czechoslovakia and Finland games - - along with the USSR classic of the Lake Placid Olympics.

Doesn't even come within 3,000 miles of 1980.

Great stuff nonetheless, but be careful with the hyperbole.

I'm not sure it's even theoretically possible to top that game.

The US hung on by a thread in the 2nd period in that game, down 3-2, with the puck in the US zone about 90% of the period. Craig was brilliant and the US somehow survived it. There was a real chance that the US could have been down like 8-2 at that point. The USSR outshot the US 12-2 in the period.

But yeah, given the geopolitical situation, the Soviet veterans vs. the American kids, on home ice in Lake Placid, everything, it's hard to even conceive of a greater sporting event taking place.

Sure.

Afghanistan forms a basketball team, makes the olympics, and beats a star-laden American team including LeBron James, Durant, Rose, and all of those guys.

The headlines would be epic.

But I have a better chance of becoming the next GM of the Patriots that that scenario playing out.

The tiebreaker was kind of a letdown. Was expecting some sick deke or trick.. but I'll take it.

tiebreaker

Well...theoretically...time-warp back to 1980 game...US scores with 1 second left to tie it in regulation, then scores with 1 second left in overtime to win it.

Yeah, you're right, I got nothing.

That game was heart-stopping - this one was great, but looked like a Stanley-Cup playoff game.

The rule that took the winning goal away from the Russians is patently ridiculous. The announcers said in the NHL that would be a goal. Quick is the guy who lifted the net off the moorings, and then when the goal went right by him though he had clear vision, he immediately pointed to the mooring. He knew he had deliberately knocked it off, and as soon as the goal went by his head, he pointed to it.

Bad international rule.

I also think they need to play Ryan Miller next time. I'm not that confident right now in Quick.

Dvr the game. Will watch later when I get home.

With that I think this should prove the US are serious gold medal contenders!

There is an annoying trend in modern society to label something the "best ever" "worst ever" "biggest ever" (etc) immediately after it concludes. I call it "The Outbrain Effect."

This was an exciting game, no doubt. But anyone who uses terms like "best ever" is just showing they have no clue about what happened in 1980 Lake Placid.

"Historical!!!!!!!!!!!"

Go to Webster's dictionary and look up "miracle". You will find a definition regarding an Olympic hockey game in which a bunch of college kids basically from 2 schools beat a professional team many considered the best in the world. If you were born sometime after the early 80's, then your somewhat excused for you exuberance.
