How many catches will Chad Jackson have in 2007?

Well, assuming he's healthy for TC, then somewhere between 35-45.

If he had somewhere between 35-45 catches for 500-600 yards, I think that would be a great season for him in year 2.

Of course, if he's not ready for TC, it's a whole different story.

Its a good thing that you weren't the coach of Steve Smith when he was first drafted. Smith's first year numbers:

10 receptions, 154 yards, 0 TD's. - B - u - s - t.

WR's generally start slow and he was hampered by injuries all year. Give him some time and he will be a good WR.

I think maybe the 0-9 folks are under the impression his ACL is going to keep him out the year, by all accounts that seems to not be the case. In fact, the current feeling, based on Tomase's reports, are that he could very well be back by training camp since it was a partial tear.

I'm keeping my expectations low for now, especially since the team seems to be interested in bringing in a proven deep threat for at least one year to give Jackson more time to develop.

1-2 passes a game would be a great "rookie" year as given his injuries and time lost, that's how I'm approaching this season.

If the Pats do not sign a deep threat WR and Jackson's knee heals quickly, I'd expect him to get more reps and things could change. But until we know whether they are depending on him or not as a deep threat it's tough to predict.

I said 0-9. I just don't think he'll be healthy enough to start the season, and from there, I'm worried injuries will nag and he won't really get to see the field and will eventually hit IR.

I've seen it happen too many times with young "injury prone" WRs.

Projecting 2.5 catches per game or 40 for the season. With a tough first year under his belt and the fortune to stay healthy, this guy starts to come on even more during the second half of the 2007 season. Knowing what to expect, feeling comfortable with the system, and knowing the plays go a long way in easing the concerns raised during his first season.

Coaches and vets will be taking particular interest in getting involved in CJ's progress this year, as his solid contribution is extremely important to the team's success.

No. I'm under the impression that missing another full off-season program will mean that he is still clueless about the Pats offense and, therefore, useless on the field -- whether his ACL is better or not.

Have any proof for your accusation he was clueless about the Pats offense? Belichick gave him nothing but praise during the season. In fact, CJ never had any questions about his route-running or football smarts throughout college, into the draft, and into the season until Peter King and Tom Casale decided to try and smear the kid for no reason. If you'd rather trust those two jacka**es than Bill Belichick, go ahead.

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reporting for the Sporting News, reports in the best-case scenario, New England Patriots WR Chad Jackson (knee) could be back sometime just before opening day 2007, but could be well behind in his preparation.

I do think that if he misses most if not all of TC 2007 could be a similar season to 2006. Just missing the off season and mini camps will set him back in the pecking order as Brady builds on the rapore with his returning receivers and gets on track with Welker. It's not just learning the playbook in theory, it's mastering it's execution through reps. I remember comments last season when Brady occasionally acknowledged he needed to start looking for Johnson more, only to then have him disappear again. Once the season starts it's tough to get those extra reps that build rapore when the team is moving on from one game plan to the next each week.

It will be enlightening to see whether he is physically ready before camp breaks, and if not if they PUP him and look to add him in after week 7 or if he's still being asked to make his bones on ST and by blocking and they push him to do something to earn a roster spot right out of camp.
