Talib did nothing wrong, he has as much right to THE BALL as the receiver. It was an iffy call.
Remember this play from Week 4?
Patriots defense, 4th down failed - NFL Videos
Talib has a hold of Roddy's jersey, and contacts Roddy a split second before the ball arrives. I liked that there was no call there, would've been ticky tack.
On the other hand, one factor that might have gone against McFadden was that he never turned his head to locate the ball. That's something the refs take into consideration. That's a pet peeve of mine when it comes to cornerbacks. The ones that aren't known for turning their head to locate the ball are usually always getting burned. (Not saying McFadden is one of those guys, since I know nothing about him.)
No actually we haven't. Contact is one thing, especially contact while playing the ball. Grabbing a receivers arm is blatant PI and will get called every time the ref has a clear view. We've seen Dennard and Talib do this time and again and not get called for it. The flag should have stayed in the pocket. It didn't didn't this time. That's just the way it is.
Every Browns fan this morning thinks the Browns were robbed.
Every Browns fan this morning will also admit that they knew the Patriots would score.
The call is a great excuse for what happened.
with that officiating crew, both teams were capable of being screwed, hell i thought the screwjob was in on fumble that apparently wasnt a fumble, and couldnt be reviewed.
Why is this even still being talked about. This wasn't about some incidental contact. This wasn't about mutual back and forth contact. THIS is all about grabbing and inhibiting the receiver. It couldn't be clearer. That's why I included this clip. Let me point it out to you by the numbersPatriots benefit from controversial call in last-minute victory over Browns | For The Win
Pretty good video here and it shows some good interfering at the 6 yard line.
Its actually pass interference twice. First impeding him at the 8 slowed him down a step which was the reason he did not make the catch, and secondly grabiing his arm in the end zone to prevent him from reaching out to make the catch is textbook pass interference. Why is this even still being talked about. 1. At about the 8 yard line Boyce starts to go by the defender. The defender knowing he's beaten grabs Boyce's arm to slow him down as he goes by. This happens between the
7-2 yd
2. At about the 2 he pushes Boyce in the back
3. In the endzone he grabs the back of Boyce's shoulder.
So in summary: The defender is beaten. He makes no attempt to look back at the ball, and he significantly inhibits the WR for making a catch....MULTIPLE times.
Exactly what about that makes it even a marginal call. This is a call that's going to be made EVERY SINGLE TIME! And that's not counting that this particular crew is known for throwing more flags than most.
The is a media made controversy. The only people who have any right to be upset are rabid Browns fans and the players. Their bias is perfectly understandable, but they are WRONG.
If that happened to the pats...we would all be sitting here making threads *****ing once again about the officials for weeks strait saying it's not a penalty blah blah
He touched the elbow. Grab is somewhat of an exaggeration I'd suggest. For it to be interference, Boyce has to be impeded and that just isn't there in the end zone as far as I'm concerned. If that's interference then every single pass play in the NFL where the receiver and defender are in close proximity is a pass interference. Might as well play pitch and catch.
From what I remember seeing, Campbell's pass landed past the LOS marker. Seemed like a blatant bad call at the time. Need to wait for the vid to be certain though.
You are 100% incorrect. This is exactly right. You are allowed to touch the receiver. There was no "elbow grab." Like you say, he has to be impeded, and he was not. Terrible call.
You are 100% incorrect.
Well he's 100% correct to say that hindering the receiver is a must for pass interference and considering that there is no consensus as to whether the actions of McFadden "significantly hinders" Boyce's chances of a catch, saying he's a 100% incorrect seems , well, 100% incorrect to me.
The rule says the receiver has to be significantly hindered and there is just no way that happened there. Let's face facts. Boyce dropped the ball.
He does significantly hinder him. About a yard in the end zone the defenders grabs Boyce arm and yanks it back thus not allowing Boyce to fully extend his arms to catch it. That is what the official called.
Dennard and Talib at least make an effort to turn back for the ball and most times they are playing the ball.
Thats whats made the difference in the NE pass defense this season. Clearly this Browns player was not only grabbing at Boyces arm, but also got his hand up in Boyces field of vision because he was beat.
1. Not turning back for the ball.
1. Grabbing the WRs arm.
1. Hand up in the facemask.
3 strikes youre out!
