Cleveland Browns' Jason Campbell cleared to practice, has a chance to start against New England Patriots | cleveland.com

Browns quarterback Jason Campbell has been cleared to practice Thursday, but has not been cleared yet to play Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Campbell suffered a concussion in the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks ago and did not play Sunday in the home loss to Jacksonville. Campbell still must receive clearance to play from an independent doctor before he can be named the starter for the Patriots game.

Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner said Thursday that he is relieved Campbell is making progress, and Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said he was encouraged by the news.

This week, the Browns signed free agent Caleb Hanie, who has started four NFL regular-season games in his six-year career; and last week they signed Alex Tanney, who has started none in his two seasons, from the Cowboys practice squad.

Chudzinski said he split first-team reps between Hanie and Tanney on Wednesday, since Campbell and Weeden were unable to practice.

Campbell's actually a half-decent QB, so that's not great news for us. Definitely makes their passing game a little more formidable, in the sense that you can't just assume you're getting at least one and probably multiple interceptions.

Dobson is slightly discouraging, mostly because the word last week was that he was being held out as a precaution. If he's missing a second week, even after Thompkins got hurt last week, then it's probably more than that.

Cannon's the real worry, though. Hopefully they're just making sure he gets back to 100%, because the Pats are really going to need him. Being down to your third string tackle is never good news.

Is there a time table on how long a team can be precautious with a player's injury?

Barring anything weird happening Pats will make the playoffs. I'd rather him be completely healthy than have him with an injured foot going into the playoffs.
