Maturation of Julian Edelman

" his ability to take a hit in tight coverage (which is why we loved WW) and great hands. " He's been dropping long passes brady put on the money all season.

Welker a great player = yes
Welker has great hands = not so much

Had it not been for thompkins everyone here would be ripping edelman for those 2 drops against the saints.

Edelman has been clutch all season; look at his splits coming into today’s game, he steps up big when it matters:

First half – 26 receptions, 187 receiving yards, 7.2 average and 2 touchdowns
Second half – 34 receptions, 406 receiving yards, 11.9 average and 2 touchdowns

Both coolguy and borg are trolls, they only post to say things to piss people off. And it works, they always piss people off. I'm sure that makes them proud of themselves.

I posted Rotoworld's salary breakdown verbatim......that means word for word.....and that's trollish?
You need to get new material

I wonder what the cost of re-signing will be. On one hand, Edelman has matured into legit WR and is posting numbers near the top of the league. On the other hand, he may be viewed as the ultimate Brady system WR.

Belichick was willing to pay Emmanuel Sanders $3 million, Edelman's value must be greater than that. He won't likely make Welker/Amendola money. Think he'd sign for $4-$5 million per?

lmoa-talk about irony, the king of one note negativity.

10 years trolling this forum, you should get a plaque.

I would give Edelman 4 per year, but I have no idea if the Patriots would. 3-12 sounds good to me but he may want more. I will say that in terms of the WR unit they definitely have the money to do it because it is one of the lowest paid units on the team, and i would take Edelman over Sanders every time.

Man he is in beast mode lately.

HOPe he stays healthy and stays around these parts for a while. He is a good returner and is developing into a very nice wideout.

He and TFB go at each other I get the vibe, but #11 IS developing a very nice relationship on the field with #12.

I am sorry. I love Edelman as much as the next pats fan. But i would take Sanders over him as far as a pure WR.

I hope he stays next year and think he is showing what ll of us Edelman lovers thought he could do. But IMO his best work is done in the slot not out wide. I like Sanders as he is good all over the park.

In saying that. Dobson and KT might end up making the Sanders move redundant who knows.

Julian Edelman:

70 receptions 711 yards 4 TDs

Wes Welker:

68 receptions 717 yards 9 TDs

Go Julian Go

That's impressive. No one dished out more sh.t to the "Edelman can easily replace Welker" crowd than I did but he's done an exceptional job of doing just that this season. Welker was special for 6 years but Edelman is showing that he's an integral part of their offense and they should get a deal done with him.

*Props to Patfanken for driving the bus for the Edelman bandwagon.

And to think the Pats almost didn't sign him back

The cool thing about Edelman is that he is home grown like a baseball player who comes up through the farm system. Came in worked behind Welker and played special teams then last season he took over the 3rd wide receiver role and now he is likely the #1 receiver and #2 option behind Gronkowski.

When he broke his arm in 2009, he was leading all rookies in receptions.

I truly wonder how much farther he would have progressed had that not happened.

Disagree completely, if they are going to spend 3-4 million on a receiver I would much rather they spend it on Edelman than Sanders. We all know by now that being on the same page as Brady is the most important thing for any receiver who wants to be successful in NE, and Edelman has finally reached that point and is now a player Brady turns to when he has to make critical plays. And when you add in his PR skills it makes it a no brainer imo. Edelman is worth 3-4 million a year and i really hope they make a hard push to keep him, it would suck to lose him but would suck much worse to see him go to a team the Patriots need to beat. I would really like to see them get it done now but doubt that will be the case.

Not what's worse is to think that most of the fan base on this board WOULDN'T have cared.

Kudo's to you Ivan, for being one of the VERY few Edelman haters to stand up. You sir, are a man.

BTW- That being said, despite the current numbers, Edelman does NOT equal Welker. They are playing differently in a different offense. Suffice it to say, Edelman is proving to be a solid NFL WR as well as being an elite PR. Not bad value for under a million. Compare that to what Miami is paying Wallace
