Alfonzo Dennard top 15

Of that list I would only say Sherman, Tillman, Flowers, Peterson, Talib and Hall could have arguments made for them being quantifiably better than Dennard in 2013. You've thrown in a few Safeties for good measure. I wouldn't include them in a discussion regarding Corners. This season, I'm not sure I would say Revis (even though I believe he's the best CB in the NFL) has been better than Dennard.

I have little time for Browner. He is ridiculously overrated because he's a member of the Seahawks Secondary. Really, those thumpers are well represented because of Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman. Browner is a good player but he's not a great player like Sherman and Thomas.

Personally, I can see the argument for Dennard being a top 20 Cornerback in the NFL. Naturally, you can make the same argument for the seasons of guys like Darius Butler, Keenan Lewis, DRC etc.

Honestly I agree and think dennard can get there I am just throwing names out there so we can compare. I did throw safteys in there which was probably a bit silly I admit I was just thinking of ppl I would like at cb. I do think tho there would be 5 I would have missed in that list people would argue were better. I re watched the NO game today and he was doing a great job on Colston and has held his own all year IMO.

Too bad Jesus was only 5'7", if you believe the Shroud of Turn, or he could have been a top 15 God.

He could never have been a top 15 because he never improved his atrocious mechanics and he refused to play a different position. Although generally considered a good locker room guy, it is rumored that he made the rookies pay for the last supper. His off the field antics are well documented too, including things like hanging out with prostitutes in the off-season and trashing temples. It was rumored that if his career wasn't cut short by Pontious Pilate, he would have been cut by the end of the season.

Mike Mayock's great-great-great-etc-grandfather's draft report, said that despite his diminutive stature, Jesus could play with his hand in the dirt, had a great three-cone time and a motor that wouldn't quit. Jesus had a below average bench press but made his teammates, especially dead ones like Lazarus, better.

*gulp* I hope he can stay on the field and out of the jail! Dennard is certainly an important part of our secondary. That's not questionable right now.

Is he top 15 CB? I dunno. There are a lot of great CBs in the NFL. I think he needs a larger body of work to judge him. I feel he is a great #2 but I don't think he's on the level of Talib just yet where you can stick him on the other team's #1 WR and feel like he will just get the job done.

Oh and just consider guys - Dennard was a 7th round pick. I think the Pats received EXCELLENT bang for the buck with that selection!

Dennard is doing something often that Arrington and Ryan have failed to do....turn your freaking head and go for the ball instead of trying to blanket a guy not knowing where or when the ball will descend and almost looking like they are praying it will fall short or be blocked by his body.

That is a major weakness of Arrington and a reason why he will never amount to a solid CB,rarely looks for the ball and always has his back turned to it.

The great CBs in this league never get out of position and know where their receiver is and the balls vicinity...Talib is one of those guys and Dennard is learning well.

He's no Ras-I Dowling, but he's OK.

I would put him in the top 20 CB's in the league right now but couldn't put him in the elite category. That said he's a steal where they got him.

Revis
Sherman
Talib
Peterson
Haden
Tillman
Joseph
Jennings
Rogers
Webb

That's 10?

Flowers? Leon Hall? Ike Taylor sucked. Amukamara? Browner? Gilmore?

I think Dennard has a shot at top 15.

It's not a matter of choosing not to turn back for the ball it's a matter if being beaten so you can't.

That is actually his DUI hearing, Dale. That's the one that we couldn't care less about. Obviously, a DUI isn't going to carry jail time by itself.

The hearing that may/may not throw him in jail in the violation of probation hearing, which is in the beginning of December--and is actually a day BEFORE the DUI hearing. (It no longer matters because he already admitted his guilt and plead guilty, so it's just a matter of sentencing or re-issuing probation again).

The violation hearing was pushed back two times, but both times were only 10 days each time. Dennard already admitted to the violation and plead his guilt, so they are actually just waiting for the judge to sentence him on the violation charge. The odds are that he probably won't be given more jail time in my opinion, but this is the hearing where it could happen. There's always the possibility of the defense trying to get another postponement, but since the judge/prosecution really wasn't having it by only pushing it back 10 days each time, it probably won't matter too much. It's highly unlikely that they'd suddenly be able to get it pushed back 2 whole months into the future when the season would be over, so we'll have to hope that there isn't any jail time during the season.

The hearing that you linked is the DUI, and since it's only his first offense--it's really no big deal at all. The DUI hearing is the one where they seem to continue to push it back for a month or so at a time, again and again.

The team may have failed with 2nd and 3rd round picks lately (moreso in the 2006-2009 period, as a whole) but they've made it up for it with late rounders and UDFA's.

The part that likely annoys people is the high hopes that we all seem to have for guys like Ras-I-Dowling, Jermaine Cunningham, Darius Butler, Pat Chung, Ron Brace, etc because they are high rounds pick who get more attention; but the truth is that it probably all evens out in the end with their success in the later rounds/UDFA's.

The good news is it is not coaching – these players all really do suck even on different teams

• Chung has appeared in 5 games and compiled 16 tackles, 1 pass defended, 0 interceptions on a 4-5 Eagles team currently ranked dead last in passing yards per game in the NFL.
• Butler bounced from the Panthers to the Colts and has played OK on a bottom half ranked passing defense.
• Cunningham is currently on the 49ers, he has no stats registered in 2013.
• Brace is currently on his couch after being cut by the Redskins at the end of the preseason.
• Dowling is currently on the Jets practice squad, unable to make the jump to the 53 man roster of a team that is 27th in the NFL is pass yards allowed per game.

Please don’t use the word “steal” in connection with Alfonzo Dennard the Lincoln, Nebraska police will file charges :suspicious:

One thing worth mentioning about Dennard is last Sunday was the 19th game he’s played and 14th start in his career, so we’re talking about a player who hasn’t even started a full seasons worth of games yet, to even discuss his being in the top 15 is impressive in my opinion.

• 19 games played
• 14 games started
• 69 combined tackles
• 62 total tackles
• 1 forced fumble
• 4 interceptions
• 14 pass defends
• 2 stuffs
• 1 pick six

Those are some damn impressive numbers. Maybe he is top 15, but you know what even if he isn’t if he progresses as an NFL player he is almost certain to get there soon.

Dennard would look even better if DMC would help him out once in a while. It's like whenever dennard gets beat dmc doesn't even try run and help him.

What other safetys would let both receiver and cornerback run 15 yards pass them?

This sounds like a figment of your imagination, and not like an actual analysis of what's transpired on the field this season.

Devin McCourty is probably playing better than any safety in the NFL right now, his presence at safety has completely changed this defense. I do not agree with your post at all.

More like alternate reality. What league is he watching?
