Here's some fuel for the fire:

We know the Patriots like Sanders, and I'd say that they could get him for less than a 3rd at this point considering Pittsburgh's record. It would also be very interesting to be the first team to play Ben after taking away his #2 receiver, and that'd most likely be Sanders' biggest contribution to the game, because I very much doubt the Pats would put Sanders on the field less than a week after trading for him.

I would be happy with Sanders for a 4th or 5th. He would be a solid addition. The Pats have wanted him for a while now, they made an RFA offer on him, so they must see something they like.

McCourty is ranking out as the best safety so far this year, makes a crazy awesome play that gives a teammate an INT.

Meanwhile Dez Bryant is being Dez Bryant.

Team players > Stat Makers.

There will not be a deal for a wide receiver that anyone would care to add to the team. Here is the reality of it. Every team out there knows the Pats would be desperate to add a wide receiver at this point. So that would make it a seller's market to the Pats. Do the Pats over pay (trade wise) for anything? Nope. So it isn't happening. The Pats would bid low on any potential trade and there is no team right now with a receiver that is remotely worthy desperate enough to take the low ball offer. So no trade is happening for a wide out.

Now a d-lineman could happen, but it won't be a name guy. It will not be some lineman that already has big pay. It will be typical BB going for the unknown diamond in the rough kind of guy that he could get for a low round draft pick.

Those thinking of MJD can forget about it. No way that happens. Not with a team that is 6-2 and has enough different backs on the team.

Everyone knew the Patriots needed a CB last year.....

If you said that the odds of an outside receiver coming in mid-season and expecting to pick up our system were insanely slim, then I'd tend to believe you. I'm sure there have been an example somewhere for a guy who came in (although I'm not sure this late in the year) during the Belichick era and produced on some level, but aside from Jabar Gaffney who sucked until the playoffs in 2006, I don't remember many..if any off the top of my head.

I fail to see how adding yet another unknown player to the system is going to help Brady, or anyone--when he is currently dealing with Dobson, Thompkins, Collie, and even Amendola on some level as new guys; but then again, I'm not the coach.

The fact that "everyone knows" that certain teams need certain positions may help to drive the price up, but I think just about every team goes through this when trying to work out a deal. I wouldn't be nearly as concerned about that aspect as I would the outsider issue.

I would trade for him, but Jones will not trade him. I don't care about temper tantrums actually at least he cares enough about the game to react like a 5 year old. Channel that energy properly and he could be a top 5 receiver.

Jerry Jones seems to have long term plans for Bryant, judging by his comments today regarding the situation. Some teams and owners can look past things, while others cannot. Jones has put up with much worse regarding Bryant and has pretty much gotten him under control, so I don't see this is being too big of a deal. Besides, he is an obvious top 5 WR talent who helps the Cowboys win, and Jerry Jones has seen this before with Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, etc.

In the case of Bryant, the first outburst was caught on audio screaming at Romo "we're the best in the NFL at that. You know we are. We're the best at that. Nobody's better." The comments caught in the first "meltdown" were nothing but positive. Sometimes the media tends to blow things out of proportion and doesn't put things in context.

I'd be much more interested in hearing the second meltdown where Witten and Bryant exchanged words. That one didn't seem to be as positive, as both players looked somewhat heated (especially Witten).

I would offer a 4th like we gave up for Talib.

That would never do it. They gave up a 2nd round pick to select him in the supplemental draft last summer, therefore they did not have that pick to use in April's draft. I wouldn't see any reason why they'd suddenly want to get rid of him for much less, especially considering that they're probably close to competing at a .500 or better level with an addition or two at QB.

They have 7 of the first 120 picks next spring, with 2 firsts, 1 second, 2 thirds, and 2 fourths; so I imagine that they'll definitely be making some moves to get one of the QBs who are coming out in the draft. I would expect them to keep their defense intact along with young skill position players like Gordon, Benjamin (who just went down with an ACL tear yesterday), and Cameron, so that they will have something of an offense when they select their QB + get Hoyer returning as a backup.

They don't need picks. They need a QB and a RB, and to package a pick or two in the future for 2015, which they will likely do now that Lombardi is at the helm.

Jerry Jones the owner is excellent for the Cowboys. Jerry Jones the General Manager is typically terrible for the Cowboys. He should heed Jimmy Johnson's advice and leave football decisions to football people.

Just to be clear, they effectively "forfeited" their 2013 2 to the NFL in order to get Gordon in the summer of 2012. It didn't cost them two picks.

I didn't think I portrayed that thought, but if I did--apologies. Somewhere either you misunderstood or I jumbled my sentence, because I am well aware that they did not give up TWO picks to select Josh Gordon. I edited my sentence to make it more clear.

Either way, I don't see why they'd select him with a 2nd rounder and then trade him away for a 4th rounder--especially when he's looked pretty good. When you take into consideration that he didn't have the luxury to take part in OTA's last year and went through 2 head coaches/systems in 2 years it makes his progress look even better.

I think they're set with Gordon, Benjamin, and Cameron as 3 important skill position players on offense for the future. If they select a capable RB + a QB (and bring back Hoyer as the journeyman backup), they may end up being one of those quick rising 9-7 or 10-6 teams in the next year or two.

It's literally their worst trait. All of their financial decisions and personnel decisions are downright awful.

The Cowboys are currently 31 million over the cap for next season, and yet they still saw no problem with cutting Jay Ratliff and absorbing his 7 million dollar hit next year anyway. The way that Jones runs the team is awful.

People can say all they want about the bad decision re: Romo, but an 18 million AAV is what top 10 QB's in the league go for, so I have no problem with that particular choice myself for a guy who has an alltime QB rating that rivals that of Brady at 95-96, has a better than 2/1 TD to INT ratio, and who is a much better option than starting over from scratch. I thought it was a no-brainer to keep Romo rather than start over, but some of their other choices are insane....

Look at Miles Austin and his 10 million dollar AAV pact after one halfway decent season. That has been a monumental failure. How about Doug Free? What a joke. The Anthony Spencer issue is a prime example of a player who would never have been kept had we not worked out a long term pact with him. Belichick would not have chosen to pay him 10+ million dollars again when the team is in that bad of cap shape, and now the Cowboys are reaping what they sow in terms of current and future cap hell.

ESPN's @AdamSchefter says that the #Patriots "are a team to watch" at today's #NFL trading deadline.

I wont get my hopes up. Have a feeling we will be anticipating something to happen and nothing will.

Not sure about that. Schefter is usually pretty well informed, though I'm not sure if he's saying that because we have a couple of needs that could be satisifed by trades or if he actually has innate knowledge of a potential trade in the works. We shall see.

1st for Fitzgerald
2nd for Gordon
3rd for Nicks
4th for Gonzalez
5th for Maurice Jones-Drew
6th for Linval Joseph
7th for Matt Cassel

I did it in Madden so it must be able to work!

Then you forgot the other trade, where you send Mallett somewhere for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th...

I would guess it's both. As you said, Schefter is reliable so I don't think he'd just throw out a team name without some knowledge of what's being talked about. Anyone can come up with teams that need something and make a fake trade (see numerous articles put out just this week).

I am curious to see what, if anything, actually transpires today.

If I'm just making a blind guess, I would guess a lower pick for Lindval Joseph. What I'm actually hoping for is either Nicks or Gonzalez (or both... a guy can dream).

My speculation:

The Browns are weighing the Pats and 49ers offers for Gordon and are making a last stand. They will reward the highest bidder by 4pm.

I want hakeem nicks. The dude has a large catch radius.

I would love to see the team acquire Nicks. I would take Gordon as well, though I'm a bit more nervous about his history with the league office as well as his ability to digest the playbook.

I worry about that, too, but you know Gordon's contract and skills = value to BB.
