Wonder what his deal is. How many snaps yesterday? Didn't play week 2. Screams he doesn't get the playbook unfortunately. Has a great skill set

Why not have him on KR instead of the dump truck back there?

Probably Brady doesn't need three rookies running around there at the same time. As the other two get comfortable, maybe he'll be blended in.

I'm with you on KRs.

He definitely should be looked at as a KR. As for a featured role in the offense? Eh.

It is interesting that he and Dobson appeared fairly close in the preseason but now Aaron is a top target and Boyce can't even get on the field.

Given the struggles of Thompkins, if Boyce was ready, I'd expect him to be out there. Since he's not out there, I'm guessing that the team thinks he needs more development beforehand, even under the circumstances.

Trying to get 2 rookie WRs heavily involved in the offense is a task, trying to get 3 rookies in it seems almost impossible, especially if you are a team whose goal is the SB.

I think he'll be eased in more as the season progresses.

The offense we see now, is not the offense we will see 3,6 or 9 games from now. There is plenty of time to integrate Boyce back in. I would expect to see more of him once Gronk is back and he starts drawing doubles.

Are you expecting injuries to Dobson or Thompkins?

Agreed, anything has to be better than 10 yards every kick return. Though Boyce didn't do that a lot in college (only 3 times), he did have a good average. As far as receiving, that's been a bit of a disappointment. Though he did start later than Thompkins and Dobson due to his foot injury.

I was high on Boyce but he's not coming on as quickly as I thought he would, but I wonder if they view him as more of a slot guy so he's behind Edelman for reps at that spot.

On KRs, though, I was really excited for Leon Washington but then after he got cut I was thinking Boyce might be our guy and then they resigned Washington and I was back on the path to excitement and then they have Blount returning kicks.

I'm not Blount's biggest fan and I'm also not a hater but they might as well have Connolly back there...

I'm fine with him not playing much in the regular offense, since from week 1 it looks like he's primarily Edelman's backup. I agree that he has to be a better KR than Blount, though. I really just can't understand what Belichick's doing with Blount back there. At this point, it seems like all you want is a surehanded guy who knows to never take it out of the end zone anyway.

I think you've nailed it - when Edelman was shaken up in week 1, I think that was the only time Boyce came in on offense.

Dobson didn't play week 1 and Blount has returned 4 KO's in 3 games for an average of 21 yards per return and no fumbles. Dunno what is so wrong with this picture...

What is it with the obsession about kick returns?

The rules have radically changed kick offs in the NFL. Moving the line up so most kicks sail into the end zone this time of year. Outlawing overloading one side. Outlawing wedge blocking.

I am quite sure that Ernie Adams and Belichick have done a comprehensive review of the impact of these changes. They have apparently concluded that what we traditionally thought about kick returns (impact on the game, personnel, etc.) doesn't apply anymore.

My only complaint with Blount as a kick returner is that I wish he would just take a knee in the end zone. I think running the ball out of the end zone has an unfavorable risk/reward benefit under the current rules. Not much chance of something good happening. Lots of risk of bad stuff happening: injuries, turnovers, etc.

It's highly likely that was injury related. I suspected at the time in the latter portion of the preseason that Dobson was struggling to separate from third and fourth stringers due to some type of ailment. That suspicion was right, as so far Dobson has been blowing by a lot of legit NFL corners now that he seems healthier.

I think Leon Washington is the man for this job, but he has been injured.. Blount is his backup, it will change.

The kickoff part of the game has pretty much been negated due to the rule changes...

any news on him? Still not getting the playbook or what?

Buried on the depth chart.

I don't think Patriots are going to activate more than 5 WRs per game, 6 if Slater ever gets healthy.

Boyce has to beat out Collie for the 5th spot.

Go back and check how many weeks veeren was inactive in the first 2 yrs. He is obviously not ready .
