Report: Season-ending torn Achilles for Wilfork

While the speculation that he may never play here again makes sense on some level,
"let's wait to see before rushing to any conclusions."

What kind of crazy talk is this, Fly???

Saying that this blows just doesn't seem to do it justice.

I wish Vince a full and speedy recovery.

After Ty Warren, I'm not going to rule out the possibility of anybody blowing a rehab.

That said, I'm in the group that expects Wilfork to do everything right in rehab and come back as an outstanding player next season.

The dude is probably going to spend more time in swimming pools this year than in his whole prior life combined.

Terrible, terrible news. Good luck in your recovery, big man.

I would rather have lost the game than Wilfork. This freaking sucks he is such a great guy, great player, great leader. Godspeed, get well soon you beast!

No we're not losing this year. Forget that.

But I feel the same way. I feel bad already we're going to win it all without Vince. Feel empty inside about it. It's like losing Tom on offense.

I guess we'll have to win one next year too when he's back. That's really the only answer.

The big worry, of course, is the ripple effect on the rest of the defense. E.g., if the LBs need to be configured now to protect better against the run, what implications does that have for pass coverage?

Two of the most important guys in minimizing the effects of Wilfork's loss may be Hightower and Spikes.

Wilfork job was never to rush the pusher. Just occupy blockers and stuff the run.

Just another way of saying he was not a good pass rusher. Wilfork is a tremendous player, especially against the run. It does not diminish his importance to say but we could have a better pass rush with someone else.

First thing I thought off was a torn Achilles when I saw this. Those injuries where there are no contact are almost always bad.

Sucks he is done for the year and it’s a huge loss but for the most part this is a pass league anyway and the pats seems to have improved drastically in that department.

Vince is a huge loss. No way to replace him. He will be missed
But I have to say that this is the first season that I THINK that this defensive group can survive without him. I said that I THINK. I could be dead wrong. But maybe these guys surprise all of us.

This is awful news.

But we can survive this. Vince hasn't played like Vince this year because of his foot and we still have been putting forth our best defense in a long time. We now have enough talent on defense to withstand a loss like this.

It's going to be a long recovery for Vince. His age, weight, and the type of injury he sustained is going to make this a long rehab.

On the bright side, if he loses a lot of weight during rehab (he needs to to be able to put weight on a recovering torn achilles) he could possibly come back in better shape.

Good luck Vince.

Well that is some pretty horrible news to wake up to. Get well big Vince!

Well, let's be honest......will we really see a downturn in play?

Wilfork was dominated by Ducasse. Would anyone else do any worse?

I didn't see the Wilfork of old this season.
I think we've already seen "the void".

I normally don't waste my time responding to uninformed and over the top posts.

However you seem to want to continue to be the "I'm right' guy with these totally uninformed post. Vince has had this problem all year, see "probable foot injury" for the past 3 weeks. Now we know that it was more than that.

So everything you have posted as "facts" in your last 3 posts are just BS. If Vince is out for the year he will rehab and probably come back as good as ever.

Try having some information at hand before making these stupid post. I know, it has never stopped you before.

Here I was hoping to read that Dobson's injury is not that bad and shocked to read this.

Goodness, can't we catch a break??

I loved the way the media praising the Seahawks and of course the SB champions of the next 10 years, the Boroncos, and was hoping we continue to fly under the radar and 'survive' week after week until Brady gets back a few of his weapons.

And now this...

Hope the big man recovers soon and is back to being the beast next season.

Here's to Vince having a quick and full recovery.

So now what do they do? Will the scheme change? I'm sure a move is coming sometime this week at d-line.

This seriously sucks. :scream:

Pats should be able to weather the storm throughout the rest of the regular season. It's come playoff time I worry about.

Hopefully someone steps up.

Nothing you said contradicted him. Wilfork may have been playing badly because of injury, but even if so, then by definition there isn't a dropoff with the next guy most likely. Now compared to a HEALTHY Wilfork, which you seem to be condeding was not the case, there would be a dropoff. But the first three games' Wilfork was not a healthy Wilfork.

Pouha
Hampton
Seymour

Call 'em all

We need armstead back!!! But vellano looked pretty good last night with his sack. We pretty much played the whole game without Vince.
