The Official Patriots vs Gaints Pre-Season Game Thread

True enough.

Both Buchanan and Bequette had fine games.

Wouldn't shock me if Francis is shown the door, he didn't do much to show any second year leap.

Beauharnis should make the roster of Rivera. He can contribute on special teams and provide good depth at linebacker. Winn should go to the practice squad though.

I want him on the roster because I want to call him "Bohama Mama."

Based on what we've seen, Dobson could be inactive for Game One, a healthy scratch.

Yeah. I think he can become a solid starter for us but he's going to take longer than Boyce who seems more game-ready and definitely uses his quickness to get better separation. They're having the two of them run different routes, no doubt, but in the end you've got to go with the guys who are going to get open.

I think what surprised me about Francis this preseason is that he didn't spend much time if any playing inside. I saw that as his value to the team in his rookie season and expected him to add some size during the offseason and get most his reps at DT this year.

Now I'm not sure what his role is because he lacks the explosion to be an edge guy in my opinion.

Dobson was pretty terrible, but it wasn't due to separation, it is how afraid of contact he appears to be. I fully expect him to be a healthy scratch in week 1.

That said, don't get too crazy about Boyce. The only reason he was open on that play is because the CB played it terribly, and stumbled once he realized how out of position he was. He didn't earn the space, but it was a hell of a last second adjustment on the ball.

I'll date who I want to date, Dad.

I've been moist in the loins for Boyce for a while now and by week 4 you're gonna be like 'damn, I should have jumped on that bandwagon' but there will be no room for you.

I'm worried Francis is the new Erik Moore. A guy who comes in late in the season, has some amazing series and then gets cut the next pre season leaving me to question all I know about life.

Tim Tebow is not getting cut,.

They did indeed. But IMO, out of the big group of Buchanan, Bequette, Benard, Cunningham and Francis, Buchanan should be the lock because he's a little bit of a different player than the others. After Chandler Jones, he's the only DE on the roster with genuine explosiveness off the line.

Or to put it another way, Buchanan looks like a backup to Jones at RDE, while the others seem like they should either take a number behind Ninkovich on the left or move inside situationally.

Tebow 6-11 91 yds, 2TDs , INT , 30 yds rushing

Let's parse every single stat and qualify every single score it's Tebow after all and credit for even some minimal positivity is unacceptable

What are you talking about?

Very good point. And LOL at fnor's stuff!

Here is a smattering of other thoughts:

A smattering of thoughts:

* Cole made the team.

* Bequette may have played himself back onto the bubble.

* Fletch is going to be a contributor this year.

* I still think Beau makes the team somehow.

* Tebow is going to be on the 53. He is the 2013 version of Marquise Hill.

* Anyone want to explain why the second string D looked so much better this week? It looked like they were doing more blitzing - not just pass but run as well - but was that it?

* The fumbled punt was ugly, but Washington is a lock.

* Winn is a legitimate NFL prospect.

* Sims looked like the preseason version of Taylor Price.

* Tavon Wilson was OK for the second straight game. His namesake can't be too confident about making the team right now.

I agree.

As Mayock said, Buchanan solidified a roster spot tonight (if he hadn't before).

I think Bequette offers some explosiveness as well, if you ranked the DE's on explosiveness I would go with (see below).

Jones
Buchanan
Bernard
Bequette
Ninkovich
Cunningham
Francis

Ninkovich is a very good DE but he is not an explosive player.

WORRIED PLAYERS
A Wilson
Fells, Hooman and Ballard
Blount, Devlin and Bolden
Cunningham, Benard and Francis
Ebner, Rivera and Tarpinian

There are others who are at risk at being cut, but they are kids who are hopeful, not veterans who are worried.

If you look at the Dolphins game those 3 sacks were more attributed to what Jones did on the other side. Kudos to Francis for wrapping up the QB, but I wasn't overly impressed with him at DE last year. I thought he could be develop in to a Jarvis Green type sub package DT but it appears they prefer others over him inside this year, which tells me he didn't do much in the offseason to take his game to the next level.

Did you feel a tingle every time they said 4.3 speed tonight?

I think Boyce will make some big plays to go along with some real bad plays this season, he doesn't appear to be a polished player, he reminds me of Randall Cobb as a rookie with GB.

I don't think Ballard is at risk of being cut.
