Hmmm, I could have sworn that just two years ago, the Pats carried 3 QBs on the roster. Brady, Hoyer as his backup, and an inexperienced Ryan Mallett whom they would develop.

And no, I want to know when YOU think the "win now era" started.

A green Mallett in his first or second year =/= a 4 year journeyman 26 year old QB who can't throw, can't read defense, etc.

But you knew that already.

OK, let's compare Edelman and Tebow. Both are at about the same time in their career. \

Edelman came into rookie camp and starting to learn new positions: wide receiver and punt returner. He became an adequate backup slot back, and on the best punt returners in the NFL. He even played a bit of nickel back when he has desparately needed. And finally, he has shown enough at WR, so that Brady can count on him. What this means is that he is now the #3 WR until he his displaced by Dobson or Boyce.

Tebow on the other hand came into camp as a top quarterback. He learned no other position except perhaps a bit of special teams. Now, four years later, folks are suggesting that maybe he should learn a new position. NO! The time for that developmental project was long, long time a go. Personally, I doubt whether 4 years of trying would make him an NFL quality TE. It is hard to imagine him as an inline blocker.

So, here we are choosing a roster. I choose Edelman.

I'm certainly not suggesting that he learn another position. I think there's a very good case to be made that Bill and Josh think that Tebow has been mishandled up to this point and that they can develop him and make something out of him as a QB.

He has a elite ability to be uniquely bad. He's a 30 year project but he's a already shown he's a wiener.

Help me out, I'm having difficulty understanding where you're going with this and how you got there.

  1. - You don't think he is, or ever will be a good QB.

  2. - You also believe there's no evidence at this point in time that he'd be any better at TE, etc. than he is at QB.

  3. - But you do want to keep him on the roster because he will help the team win today.

Correct?

Correct.

If you believe in points number one and two (which by the way, I am not disagreeing with), then how do you arrive at the conclusion (point #3)?

Special teams, special packages... hell, wildcat too I guess although I don't see this team running it. Who knows. I just think Bill has a plan for him. Hopefully we get to see it. Showing Tim in a special package is not the same thing as a permanent move to another position.

Tim is unconventional and unconventional can be good in small doses.

Sadly, wishful thinking just doesn't make it so.

Longest thread ever for a 3rd string QB in the history of the NFL.

Apparently you can be a serial killer athlete that was an integral part of the team and still have a thread only half the size of this one.

Think about that for a minute...

Sadly, wishful thinking just doesn't make it so.

Neither does you thinking or believing something. Seriously, you've been wrong about so many things in this thread and even when you've been shown to be wrong, you ignore it and continue to blather on. Then, when it's broken down to you step by step exactly why it is you were wrong, you twist and deflect, try to change the subject, and then later you come back posting the same incorrect BS.

Hell, you're still convinced that Steve Young was a "young kid still trying to learn" in his 2nd season in Tampa and that Brady wasn't a "viable QB prospect" when Bill carried him as the FOURTH QB on the roster.

Seriously, someone could try to convince you that the sun is what lights up the sky in the day and you'd prattle on for a while in complete denial and then try to claim that it must be something else.

Nothing I said in this topic about Tebow, Young or anyone else has been "incorrect BS". However, if you wish to see this conversation your way, that is your right.

I will admit it is kind of amusing that you're presumptuously assuming - wrongly -that you're speaking from the informed position regarding this team...when you're an admitted non-fan, most likely educating yourself on this team through your favorite internet sites and nothing more.

A tip: don't play gotcha games. Annoying. Talk Tebow, Patriots, and football instead. Not annoying.

But no one, not you, nor I, nor anyone else knows whether Hernandez is guilty of those crimes. Just because a small-time prosecutor says so, doesn't mean it's true. Prosecutors bluster, lie, cheat and work hard to undermine a charged person every day, attempting to influence the press to their side and thus hopefully rig any potential jury for a favorable verdict.

I'm willing to let the legal system work and see how it all turns out before labeling anyone "guilty" of anything.

If Hernandez IS a murderer, then hopefully he gets what he deserves. If not, then a lot of folks are going to be eating crow. It's a very difficult meal, with a quite bitter aftertaste.

You are right, but there is an awful lot of evidence out there now that doesn't exactly put him in the best light.

And as we all know, "not guilty" =/= innocent. See Simpson, OJ.

This actually wasn't "gotcha games". It was a discussion. You made some posts and I readily and easily demonstrated that you were wrong.

You thought Steve Young was a "kid out there learning the game" when in fact, he was Tebow's age when he went to San Fran where Bill Walsh developed him into an NFL QB.

You've run around claiming that Tom Brady wasn't a "viable QB prospect" when Bill's decision to carry him as the FOURTH QB readily demonstrates that you are wrong about that.

I can explain it to you SB1, I can't understand it for you also.

Lastly, it's not amusing that I'm "speaking from the informed position regarding this team". Rather, it's almost kind of sad that someone as new to the Pats as myself has a better understanding of them than you do.

Hell, you are still convinced that Bill Belichick operates in a short term "win-now" mode. That's a laughable notion.

I will not criticize. You're entitled to your opinions, no matter how comically wrong they are.

Comically wrong ? Tell me, how do you square "win-now" mode with blowing up and rebuilding your entire receiving corps and then grabbing WRs with 2nd and 4th round picks and bringing in a couple of low level FA WRs and some UDFA WRs ?

That isn't "win now" mode. Win now is trading up and grabbing elite level WR talent or bringing in elite WRs through trades or FA.

Bill Belichick is the walking antithesis of "win now" mentality.

That rather suspiciously resembles someone who is a "viable QB prospect".

Who?

You can't be talking about Tebow because they have to run an offense for him because he can't run theirs, and that is as far as it gets from "viable"

You mean like the jets?

Belichick has had 12 winning seasons in a row, he doesn't just win now he wins all the time.

That's Demos' point.

Because he inherited a sucky team, had room to play with roster spots, and Brady demonstrated that he could learn the offense and be a productive player for them in the future. Basically the exact opposite of the Tebow situation.

I agree ... cannot compare the 2 ... Brady's issues were about size and conditioning. Sometimes I wonder if Tebow would be better off triming down his upper a body a bit ... less bulk.

BB doesn't really use "short term win" as you say. But Tebow is a "never win". So he's pointless.
