BB stresses that actual preseason game performance is only part of how a player is judged. But overall, it doesn't seem as if Tebow has been progressing at a very high rate.

Understatement of the century.

BB only has room on the roster for a few guys who aren't ready to contribute yet, and he definitely likes to see progress from them.

Sad for Tim that progressively horrid isn't a desired skill.

It made sense to me to try to progress Tebow in a system like NE. He still has elite running skills, great feet and a big arm. His work ethic is superb, and he is by all accounts a great leader.

While his accuracy probably will always stink (even if he fixes the mechanics) the decision making can and will improve with time. So he isn't entirely hopeless, but he's many years away from being a starting level NFL QB, and still far from being even a serviceable backup. But I mean, the upside is pretty big all the same. It's not every day that you get a guy with that type of intangibles and secondary talents.

I do think he can be useful to the team in other ways, in particular showing them some looks of a read option player.

Anyway, I dont want to see him starting anytime soon if ever, but I'm not entirely sold on the 'cut him now, he'll never be any good camp'.

Unfortunately there aren't many teams who want to spend time developing a 26 year old QB who hasn't progressed since he has been in the league. He might be able to transition to H-Back, blocking tight end and special teams player.

Elite???? WTF are you smoking? He can make plays with his feet but I'd take about 5 qbs "feet" before him. You have a very broad definition of "elite". He's not even that fast 4.71 in the 40. If he were a running back, he'd be undrafted.

Tebow's becoming as bad as all of his haters say he is, which sucks lots. It's the self fulfilling prophecy. I'm too pissed to even stop and try to glean any positives from it.

He's been getting worse since his rookie year, and I can't even try to explain why he looks so jacked up out there. That kind of game would put any player on the bubble, at best, I'd think.

And, on top of Tebow's own terrible performance, he had zero help out there. A penalty every 10 seconds, coaches calling his plays a little strange, and then giving up on the last minute of the game once they'd finally got the ball moving. bleh

None of these excuse Tebow's performance. They just add to the pile of steaming .. which was the 2nd half last night.

Other than the occasional practice there are no positive signs for this guy but I do wonder if his learning disability slows his ability to learn a new offense. He had one semi decent series where he hit Boyce for 0 gain and then almost hit Suds and then had a nice run called back because of penalty. But otherwise it was another poor night for the guy.

Still 100% certain he makes the final 53. Taking forum bets.

Tebow is 5 for 19 in two games with an interception, three sacks and two delay of game penalties.

Tebow in a Patriots uniform makes Hugh Millen look like the second coming of Johnny Unitas.

Tebow is cannon fodder for the next two weeks. He'll do mop up duty in the 4th quarter next week and probably play the 2nd half of the final pre-season game. After that, it's vaya con Dios, amigo.

What bothers me most about this experiment is that it does nothing for the 15 guys at the end of the roster on offense to run a pathetic Pop Warner spread option offense. How can anyone assess what guys are capable of when they're lined up in some empty backfield set designed for Tebow to run wide or get sacked?

And why exactly is favoritism a bad thing for football coaches? Coaches have their favorites, players that they have a special interest in, and with whom they walk the extra mile.

I think that Josh is trying to save Tebow's career. After all, Tebow was one of his 1st round picks.

This is exactly how I see it, after all McDaniels is the one who claimed he could turn a high school QB into a starter in the NFL, and to his credit actually did it with Cassel, the problem is that he has to be able to get them to throw the ball accurately and Tebow is simply incapable of doing that. Tebow has managed to win games in the pro's and even a play-off game, however even in his best games the one thing that was never said about him was that he really looked great throwing the ball and that he was making accurate throws throughout the game. he made some big plays, broken plays, and a few big throws but he has never had any stretch where he impressed anyone with his accuracy, and that is the area he has supposedly worked hardest on during his career, yet never makes any progress. It is past time to give up on this project, he is never going to be an accurate enough passer to play QB in a pro style offense. Good guy, hard worker, just not a good enough passer to make it. Time to release him and be done with it.

I do not think he is learning a new offense, I think he playing standard plays he has been asked to run since his rookie year in Denver. I do agree dyslexia has an impact on his play, but I think it impacts his on the field performance more than the plays they’re asking him to run; I see it impacting his ability comprehend, process, anticipate and execute properly when on the field.

I have no idea how any learning disabilities he may have are affecting him but I agree that he has not been asked to learn the Patriots offense, rather they have tried to tailor things for him by running plays that McDaniels had him run in Denver, and even with that he has been unable to produce anything remotely resembling a solid performance. They may give him one more pre-season game to try and show something but at this point i think his chances of making this team are slim to none. I honestly don't see how Belichick could rationalize keeping any player who has played this poorly. Not that i expect him to justify anything he does but even in his own head it would have to be a stretch of monumental proportions.

It made no sense to me, the Patriots system is actually among the worst fits for Tebow as it requires great decision making and accuracy, his two biggest weaknesses, so instead they tried to fit a system to him and it still didn't work. And as for his "elite running skills," you must mean without the ball, as he averages a fumble every 10 times he runs the ball, and no player would be allowed to run the ball regularly with those numbers. last point, leadership, you can't be a really good leader and a really bad player, they simply don't square.

Belichick & McDaniels signed Tebow knowing he's a project. What he does during the week has far greater impact than what he does in games

Well the majority of the reports are that he's terrible in practice and we've all seen he's an utter embarrassment in games, if he makes the roster over someone who's shown they can actually play it will be a travesty.
