A Blount Discussion

While I have a deep appreciation for your optimism regarding the potential of LeGarette Blount, I'm guessing that most of us would indeed rather have the following players:

--Doug Martin

--Jamaal Charles

--CJ Spiller

--Chris Johnson

--Marshawn Lynch

--Alfred Morris

--LeSean McCoy

--Darren McFadden

wait.....the only player who's actually on the list that I honestly wouldn't want to have may be Mark Ingram, which means that there are 20 other RBs on the list. And he listed a total of 21.

Definitely not "2 or 3."

Some here are getting a little carried away about a player who was/is clearly on the bubble prior to having a nice run againt the opposition's 3rd string defense....

Good lord man
Oh, I'd rather have all those other players too, but I don't think you've read what I actually said.

If LeGarrette Blount was a hard working young man with his head screwed on straight and a commitment to putting maximum effort into being the best RB he could be, instead of cold-****ing opponents in the face after losing, he is every bit as talented as any of those other guys (except I admit Chris Johnson belongs in that list I made with Peterson and Foster being on that level above).

Look at what Blount did in his first 2 years as a train wreck. Are you telling me there wasn't enough talent there to get 1,400 to 1,600 yards if he wasn't such a nutjob?

My opinions are based 100% on what I've seen from the guy playing meaningful games. The Eagles game is completely irrelevant.

I wonder why Sciano just seemed to discard him before he traded him?

He is a weapon, but maybe he needed to clear the way for his combo RB. Or he needed a team bad boy to make an example of, using him as a symbol of what he as the new Boss in town was not prepared to accept?

Blount was not picked by Schiano. Schiano became the Bucs head coach in 2012. Blount was drafted in 2010. Can't blame a new head coach for wanting to get 'his guys' onto the team.

Either way, this trade is starting to look like a steal. I mean Jeff Demps and a 7th rounder for a guy who basically just embarrassed the Eagles D? The Pats now have ENVIABLE depth at the RB position. We can continually rotate guys to keep them fresh and not have much dropoff in talent/ability at all. I really like the sound of that!

Blount tailed off last season because he got beat out by a rookie and frankly, I don't think he thought that was gong to happen. In the end, it might be the best thing for him. It will re-double his practice effort and edication to the game. You have to rememebr that he is not a stranger to the quick pace offense that the Pats run, as they basically stole it from Oregon.

Well Blount didn't get beaten out by just any rookie. He was beaten out by Doug Martin, Tampa's 1st round pick, and DM had a beast of a rookie season - 1454 yards 11 TDs 4.6 ypc 49 catches 472 yards 9.6 ypr.

I expect Blount to provide us quality backup minutes. The NFL has become mostly a RBBC league now as coaches realize the importance of keeping a RB fresh to keep them healthy for the whole season. There are really only a handful of 'bellcow' RBs left in the league such as AP. But guys like AP are so godlike any other option is a huge downgrade in comparison.

Fair enough.

Any explanation would make sense, especially me reading it improperly--as I thought that you'd completely lost your mind. You never know sometimes around here, opinions spread like wildfire, and for this past week L.Blount has suddenly gone from a battle with Bolden for the last RB spot to taking starting duties from Ridley.

For what it's worth I think the guy has obvious talent too, just not nearly what the popular consensus seems to be after the PHI game last Friday. He's still something of an unknown commodity in my eyes. Obvious talent with some character issues and a known pattern of putting the ball on the ground.

Either way I definitely agree that he stays to this point, so let's hope he can contribute nicely and reach his potential.
