Would you be surprised if WR Michael Jenkins doesn't make the team ?

At WR?

Please pass the koolaid!

koolaid drinkers amirite serious business orly

See I can worn out meme too.

I agree with you overall, though. It's way too early to be talking about all the young receiving talent on this team. I'd like to, you know, see a single preseason snap before we start talking about jettisoning ever receiver who can legally buy booze.

With Kamar Aikens and Kenbrell Thomkins both big, young, hungry WR's who are having good camps, would you be shocked if Michael Jenkins doesn't make the final 53 ? I know it's early, but I would think both Aikens and Thompkins would add to special teams as well, whereas Jenkins is JUST a receiver. Whattya think ? You think either Aikens or Thompkins would make it to the practice squad without being claimed first ?

Not at all; and frankly I'd be disappointed if he made the team.

Jenkins pick up reminds me a lot of the Will Allen signing last season, a very good professional who worked hard and was a good veteran presence. I think he finds his way onto IR just like Allen last season and sticks around to mentor Dobson, Boyce, etc.

How many Wide Receivers and Tight Ends we keep will be based on how practices go and who performs well in games. As it stands now, I have the following:

Wide Receiver:
* Danny Amendola
* Josh Boyce
* Aaron Dobson
* Matthew Slater
* Kenbrell Thompkins

If the team opts to keep 6 Wide Receivers, then I predict one of Kamar Aiken, Julian Edelman, or Michael Jenkins will claim it. Edelman needs to get on the field ASAP. His durability and availability is working against him right now.

Tight End:
* Jake Ballard
* Daniel Fells
* Michael Hoomanawanui

Gronkowski starts on PUP. If the team opts to keep 4 Tight Ends, they could either keep Gronkowski active but sit him for games, keep Sudfeld, or sign a veteran like Dallas Clark.

I am all for a healthy Gronk but do you really want him to not even see a practice field until midway though October?? That is 3 months from now and the guy hasn't played any football since the playoffs. I think its risky and how players get hurt. They sit for too long and come in either tentative or all crazy and get hurt again. No game rhythm.

Keep Gronk on the roster and have 5 TE. Who cares. This should still be a TE heavy set particularly when you have such sold guys and at least one rook who looks like he could contribute.

Even if Gronk dosent play a snap until week six he will have had 3 months of solid practice. And even if he has 3 months or practice its still...practice...not a game. The way he plays I think its just risking unleashing the rusty beast. It is a more delicate situation than just PUP him and rest him for the playoffs.

They usually keep 10 players between the TEs and WRs. Perhaps this year they go 11?? DA, JB, AD, are locks assuming status quo. JE and Slater should be there although I think they might just PUP Edelman at this point. He is on active and they might want to see what they have with a few other people.

So you have 2 more guys to add and a couple of those can go to the practice squad.

TE, Gronk, Ballad Fells, Hoo, Suds would work. Try to get Ford on the PS.

Again, from what we have seen so far and Gronk does not have any setbacks.

I like your WR, but I want to throw up at the thought of Fells being our #2 to start the season. This is what I'd like to have transpire (see below).

WR
X- Dobson, Thompkin
Z- Amendola, Edelman
Y- Boyce, Slater

TE
Y- Gronkowski, Ballard, Sudfeld
Joker/H-Back- Ford

Bye, Bye Fells and Hoomanawanui :wave:.

First I have to say I agree with keeping Gronkowski on the roster, I'd like to see him return in week 4 and be eased back into play in the games between then and the bye week (25%-50% of the snaps). After the bye week let him go all out the rest of the way.

My secondary thought is that keeping him shouldn't mean we need to keep 5 TE's however, in 2011 which was considered the year of the TE we only kept 2 and occasionally added Dan Gronkowski for depth. We should be fine with 3-4 including Gronkowski.

As I've come to learn, nothing should surprise me when it comes to the Patriots and roster additions/subtractions. That notion does make my reaction to the signing of Tim Tebow somewhat childish.

Would you be surprised if WR Michael Jenkins doesn't make the team ?
No.
And I would have said the same last week.

Yes. The guy is a stud, savvy vet who has been the victim of poor QB play.

80 catches, 1200 yards. Easily.

Understanding your obvious sarcasm and the fact that anyone who claimed such numbers would likely be quite off, the possibility certainly exists that he can replace the possession receiver in the vein of Branch that we've had the past couple of yrs.

He also could be more of an effective red zone threat, or simply add experience to the team at a reasonable price. Of course there's also a chance that he's simply camp fodder too, but may be able to offer some of the younger unproven rookies some of what he's learned.

Either way--hell no, I wouldn't be "surprised" if Jenkins didn't make it and I'm not really expecting him to make it, but even the guys who don't make it to the 53 man roster can offer something out of their knowledge base as NFL vets. Not every signing is going to be a recognizable name, and on this team there will be even fewer of them.

Is it really necessary to call out fans making predictions on a fan-made internet forum? You signature is immature and ridiculous.

I was just thinking the exact same thing about his signature right before you posted, but decided to leave it out in my response.

It's understandable to question certain aspects of the team as most of us do, but something entirely different to kind of "want" the failure to occur.

I understand that he's simply arguing what he deems as the ridiculousness of those statements by putting them in his signature, but that kind of attitude doesn't do anyone any good.

3 WR spots are locked, although the exact number is not:

Amendola, Rookies 1 + 2

The rest are battling for 2-3 spots, and one of those could certainly end up being filled by someone who's not even on the team right now.

I can't think of any reason to be surprised if a JAG like Jenkins doesn't make the team.

Just to point out, though....

There's a whole lot of Tiquan Underwooding going on with the posters already.

When BB set out to rebuild the WRs, I would have been happy if he found only one player who would be a better than average #2 WR. That was all that was needed along with an old average pro like Jenkins at #4, to produce a more than adequate receiving corps. One much better and more balanced than the 2012 club. That team had two good TEs and a great slot receiver, and a not very good WR in Lloyld. But in practice it was a two man show of whatever healthy TE was available, and WW.

Along with the other Offensive talent and the annually repeated Defense's talent for producing turnovers, the result was a high scoring team. Despite all the blather Gronk and Ahern missed 11 games, and might have been together for about 6, not even half a season.

Moreover, the team's passing game was totally unbalanced, with WW being targeted way too much, which was exploited by the Ravens, in the AFCCG.

Now fans after a mere three practices, are acting like there may be as many as four WR receiving discoveries, plus another revelation at TE. I think like DI, that is highly improbable.

But if it happened, Mike Jenkins might be let go. Belichick would have to be proclaimed a draft and scouting genius.

Based on three days of camp I would not be surprised to see him cut.

As previously stated, Jenkins has looked like crap while being outplayed by the hungrier younger guys who also are willing to contribute on special teams. I's a no brainer at this point.

If one is to rebuild the wide receiver position, then rebuild the wide receiver position and stop screwing around.

I know it's almost cliche to crap all over Michael Jenkins, but he's had a pretty nice NFL career. Obviously not a HOFer or pro bowler or anything like that, but a reasonably productive WR.

Discounting his rookie season, here are some interesting stats:

From 2005-2012:
- Average season stat line: 14 g, 43 rec, 538 yds, 12.4 ypc, 3 td
- Every season with at least 36 rec
- Every season with at least 436 yes
- 5 of 8 seasons with 40+ rec

He's been a consistently useful WR. Not great, not a stud, but useful. I'm not saying he makes the team, and I'm not saying he gets cut (I have no idea what they'll do with him). But put it this way: We were all excited when the Pats got Branch back a couple of years ago, but here are Branch's numbers from 2006-2012:

- Average season: 11 g, 38 rec, 488 yds, 12.8 ypc, 3 td

Compare those numbers to Jenkins' above. Remarkably similar.

Even though I just posted that Jenkins is getting unfairly crapped on, I am with you on this, AT. I think just go with Amendola, Edelman, and a bunch of kids and let them figure it out.

If you need to, you can always pick up a veteran WR that's sitting around not on a team. There are always those guys available, it seems.

Two names: Lawyer Milloy and Richard Seymour.

Nothing surprises me. Nothing.

Well, maybe cutting Brady.
