Mark Anderson was paid $8 million by the Bills, and he only played in 5 games before he hurt his knee and was out for the season. Like was already stated, he passed his physical. The Bills just flat out didn't want him on the team, which is surprising to me considering that his salary would have been $4 million this year, and cutting him will cost the team $4.6 million in dead cap space: $1.6 million this year, and $3 million next year. His guaranteed money has already been paid to him.
Dunno, but maybe Anderson kicked his game up a notch in his year with the Pats in his last real chance at a big payday. He showed nothing in Buffalo at all, really, and that can't be conveniently dismissed with "the Bills suck."
The Bills do have a completely new defensive scheme this year under former Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who likes to change things up with versatile players. Could be that he doesn't fit the new scheme somewhat, but that doesn't explain taking that kind of cap hit with nothing in return except not to pay the guy $4 million...again, the cap hit is bigger than that. I'd watch out for players that the Bills don't want...Donald Jones, anybody?
