Breakout Patriots Player of 2013 - Who Will It Be?

Jake Ballard and/or Donald Jones

Amendola.

There, I said it. Nobody else has!

Yes, I loved Wes, but DA also has the skill set to really click with Tom Brady.

I really like Amendola as well. His YAC and YPC is going to be no less than 3 yards more per reception and he will stay healthy. His injuries are not chronic and I think a year away from that turf in St. Louis is going to do him and his body a lot of good.

I'll say it: Ras-I Dowling ;)

Lastly, Nate Solder. I feel as though he kind of goes un-talked about a bit on this board. He's developing into a very good LT...but this is the year when we really see if he is going to develop into that elite status LT. Year three is big for the Colorado product.

Is there really any reason to talk about him? I think the guy already played up to his draft position last year and looks like the LT for a long time.

Jones and Hightower

I don't include the rookies when I think of break-out because it implies to me that they were already on the team but hadn't turned in a big season yet. Either way i think this is a tough question because this team is loaded with young talent that hasn't had a big year yet, unlike guys like Hernandez and Gronkowski who have already had some really good seasons. With that in mind i think of the following:

Shane Vereen-I see Ridley as the first down back but think Vereen is going to get many more opportunities this season and will take over K. Faulk's role, and while I don't think he will have huge number, Faulk never did either,I think his value will be measured by first downs and key plays.

Donta Hightower- I believe Hightower is going to turn in a big performance this season and may surpass Mayo as the best LB on the team.

Chandler Jones-Jones had a good rookie season but i think he will step it up big time this year and have over 10 sacks with a bunch of pressures to go with them.

Alfonzo Dennard- I think Dennard will be their best CB this year, hopefully the competition for that title will be intense because they need a big year out of their CB's.

Winner-Donta Hightower, who break out big time

Rookies: Aaaron Dobson- I think he is going to be a Moss like presence for Brady and will stretch the field both vertically and horizontally. Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Don't get me wrong. He was very good last year. But do you believe he is an elite LT? By elite, we're talking top 5-6 in league. I don't believe he's hit that ceiling yet.

I think Solder has already shown that he is one of the best LT's in football, so i left him off.

Which LTs would you take over Solder?

I'm rooting hard for Ras-I. The guy has talent and some seriously terrible luck. If he was able to stay healthy I really think he could help take the D to the next level.

Dennard is a guy I forgot about in my post. I mentioned CB's and he is the one I would like to see make the jump. I think he's got alot of potential. We've got 2 legit physical man 2 man corners who can jam in Dennard and Talib...and perhaps 2 more future starters behind them in Dowling and Ryan. You've got to like how our secondary looks on paper going in.

Tavon Wilson I'd also like to see make a jump but I really don't envision his ceiling to be very high. I think his ceiling is as a starter capable safety, but certainly not elite. If he is able to do that, I will be happy. Hoping he is able to achieve that this year. He looked decent as a rookie except for when he got burnt a couple times.

Tavon Wilson is my choice for an unexpected, breakout player since the draftniks think he can't walk and chew gum at the same time, and beleive Belichick has gone senile.

They just don't understand Belichick, who revised his Safety scouting criterion and wanted a slightly bigger, faster, more athletic James Sanders to replace the athletic, uncoachable, rockheads he had at Safety. BB believes this course will lead to a better team Pass Defense.

I think Wilson has proven smart; and has already demonstrated that he fits all those other requirements, so experience is all he needs. He has already driven Patrick Chung off the team. This is a pretty good pre-indicator of what will happen.

If he's not there he is definitely getting close imo. I just feel like that kid is so talented and has shown enough that it is only a matter of time.

LT is like the referee in any sport. If they are talking about him, it is not a good sign!

If Solder has a "break out" season, he will be a top 5 Tackle, rather than the top 10 LT he probably is now.

I'll take it.

Armond Armstead; I envision him being a 3 down player for us playing 65%-70% defensive snaps. His stats won't overwhelm but he will be a force for us.

This is the correct answer.

Just wait 'til you see this guy play!

Ebner, if he actually learns how to play safety.

Have you had the opportunity?

In the CFL? No, only the numerous youtube compilations. But everything I have read about his character has been positive. And had it not been for the USC medical nightmare, he would have been a very high pick.

He is our 1st round draft pick talent for this year.

Ridley. I think he is going to have a MONSTER year
