I am going to list some teams and their situation because I think some folks think we are a mess and I think the future is bright and ahead of us (how far ahead???)

Examples:

Mia - Will be carrying a ton of dead money, Qb is literally one hit away, older roster
NYJ - Tons of dead money, 40 yr Qb, no procession plan at QB, older roster
JAC - Organizational mess, HC will probably be fired
NYG - Jones at QB, not a ton of talent on roster
Cle - DeShaun contract/production, older roster
Ten - No future QB, not a ton of talent, is this the HC of their future

I could have easily added Chi, Car and N.O

Who had a potentially better future?

I wouldn't give up on Chicago, since I think Williams has loads of talent and they have some nice pieces. But their coaching looked to be a MESS yesterday, and their O-line made the Pats D-line look like some combo of Reggie White, Bruce Smith, and Aaron Donald.

Me! me! me! The New England Patriots.

Adding the Cowboys to the list .... how would you like their cap # for the next 3 yrs?

Drake Maye has flipped the conversation.

Not the Dolphins. They are useless.

The Pats LOOK like they have their QB. But let's call a spade a spade. It's way too early to make any final assessment on Maye. HOWEVER, if we take that as a total given... the Patriots still are a massively untalented team that needs a significant roster infusion at positions that aren't easy to fill and then the coaching still needs to level up and prove they can grow into themselves.

So while there is a promising aspect, we do need a **** ton.

lancerman from your lips to God's ears.

Ok, I'll bite!

I'm thinking 2 years, who's looking good for 2026 so eliminate any team with a QB 32 or older or negative cap space in 2026

Dallas
New Orleans
Seattle
Pittsburgh
Atlanta
LA Rams
Jets
Cleveland

Then it gets subjective better work the other way with teams in good shape. Teams with elite QB's under 32
Kanas City
San Diego
Tampa Bay
Baltimore
Buffalo

That leaves 18 other teams.
Teams with bad or ok QB combined with not an elite coach
Indy
Chicago
Carolina
Jacksonville
Tennessee
Giants
Raiders

We are left with
-Minnesota: All on JJ McCarthy, so unknown and they have a good coach so maybe
-Houston: Rather have Maye over Stroud and Ben Johnson is gone after this year, edge Patriots
-Washington: Daniels has dropped completion % almost 15% since Ravens showed a bit of a blueprint, but cap space, good GM, Daniels may improve-Maye is better than Daniels so I have Pats but others may disagree
-Denver: Nix sucks so nope
-San Fran-Purdy Contract going to hurt so Pats in better shape 2 years out
-Miami-Hill is going to be 32 in 2 years, Tua is ok but needs a Hill type receiver, Pats over Miami
-Philly: Hurts is meh, coach is meh
-Green Bay-Love, on tape is not very good, Lafleur is a great coach but no QB so Pats
-Cincy: Higgins gone, Burrow is so overrated, nope
-Arizona-Murray will be 29 in 2 years, lots of hits for a 5'10" guy, nope, he is good not great
Detroit: Goff will be 32 and meh but good young players. Again having the QB puts Pats over them

So maybe teams in better spot than Pats in 2 years
Kansas City
San Diego
Tampa Bay
Baltimore
Buffalo

Then maybe some would think so but not me:
Minny
Washington
Houston
Detroit

This all assumes Pats get some half decent talent around Maye but they have cap space and all their draft picks, plus the 3rd from Atlanta as a half decent additional pick.

Yes, we have an opportunity to a top 10 team and competing for the playoffs in 2026 (and beyond), assuming that we add some half decent talent in 2025 and 2026. $150M a year cap money to spend should help.
