The 2013 Prospect Thread

I'm just starting to look at The Draft but so far my preference would be one of the Alabama interior OL (Warmack or Jones) in the first and either a CB or WR who can stretch the field in the 2nd. The Patriots interior OL did a good job this year but I would love to add either one of those players to this team.

Have a look at Jonathan Cooper (UNC, OG). Way better than Jones and probably a better Pats fit than Warmack. He'll probably go too high for us, but he's getting ranked higher than Decastro (and quite rightly).

As for a stretch the field WR, Markus Wheaton of Oregon State is favourite round these parts.

He's not a fit for us, but it looks like Kevin Minter (LB, LSU) is declaring. He had 19 tackles against Clemson, dominated against Florida and I've seen a video of him running downfield with WR Cobi Hamilton of Arkansas. If the Ravens want a Ray Lewis replacement, he's it*. Arguably the best LB in the draft and better than Manti.

* Not saying he's as good as Lewis obviously, just that he'd be the best option to replace him.

I'm looking forward to looking at many of these prospects but have to admit that when Saban compares Jones to Bruce Mathews it is a pretty compelling recommendation, and the fact that he can play every position on the OL for the best team in college football during his tenure is also really impressive.

So do you think Minter may bump Ogletree down a few spots? Ogletree is a more freakish physical talent, but Minter is more of a pure physical ILB for a team like the Ravens looking to establish an inside presence. The Bears could look at Ogletree as an Urlacher replacement, but they've pretty much said that they want to establish their offense.

Dane Brugler has Minter going 29th to Houston in his most recent mock. Neither Brugler nor Rob Rang have Ogletree going in the 1st round. Interesting.

Really? It's pretty common knowledge. It's one of the first things I learned about him.

Dion Jordan*|*Oregon,*DE*:*2013 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

You really have to be careful when scouting Oregon. Their uniforms suck, they rotate players in and out, and move them around. I often have to wait until the play is finished to find the player, then go back and watch it over again. It's more time consuming, but what is the point of scouting at all if you're watching the wrong player? You could easily be watching Arik Armstead or Tony Washington.

Like he should. Easier competition = easier to get sacks. Should we write off Bjorn Werner's first 5 sacks too?

All I'm saying is if you're going to cherry pick one player's stats you have to cherry pick every player's stats.

I've been watching the Stanford game for over an hour and I'm still in the first quarter. I watch each play about 3 to 4 times. I haven't seen him play corner once. A 2 point stance? Yes. On about 7 plays? I admittedly couldn't figure out who he was on the field, if he was on the field at all. Any form of coverage? No.

And yes, Werner is very overrated from what I've seen. Admittedly, sheer coincidence may have a role. I scouted him in 3 of his worst games (VT, GT, Clemson), in which he got a combined 7 tackles and no sacks, but still, he has 1.5 sacks against teams with an O-line in the top 80 (against Miami (FL)). I'll probably check out the Florida game in the next couple of days, but, given the fact I think Xavier Nixon is one of the absolute worst players in college football (and Florida's O-line is 106th in the nation), I still might not be impressed afterwards. I'll be impartial to what I see, but I'm not a Werner fan.

One of my most read scouting reports involved me "cherry picking" Robert Quinn's stats. He's been a bad NFL player. Adequate pass rusher, atrocious against the run.

However, it's not easy to cherry pick Damontre Moore's stats, since he basically gets at least 1 sack against every team he plays. 1.5 vs LTU (7th best O-line in the country), 1 vs Alabama, 1 vs LSU, 1 vs Mississippi State, and only 3 sacks against the 5 teams Texas A&M played that didn't make a bowl game. Or Jarvis Jones. 2 sacks against Nebraska, 2 against Alabama, 1 against Vandy (actually 3rd in the SEC). Tank Carradine? 5.5 sacks (compared to Werner's 1.5) against top 80 ranked offensive lines, and he only played 11 games. I'm not by any means a Sam Montgomery fan, but, 1 sack vs Alabama, 1 vs Mississippi State, 1 vs Clemson. Alex Okafor really made his sacks count. Missed two games due to injury, but 1 sack vs Baylor, 2 vs West Virginia, 1 vs Oklahoma State, 1 vs Texas Tech. All of those teams are in the top 51. And I'll end on Corey Lemonier; not a great player, but all of his sacks cam against Clemson, LSU, Georgia, and Mississippi State

Weak offensive lines. He didn't get a sack against a single team in the top 80 in sacks allowed, and only one in the top 100

What site has that kind of stat breakdown?

He plays nickel corner all the time. I'm shocked you didn't know that.

Like I said, it's difficult.

Werner plays on the across from the RT, Nixon is the LT vs Florida St.

Doing my horizontal board. 2nd Round looking pretty good. Would be nice to get a 2 for Mallett and a cond'l pick. Have 12-15 guys I like for 3rd too. I don't rank them, just where I think they will be picked. For example, I don't like any of the qb's. But, you know some of them will be picked. Dion jordan is going to be well out of reach come Draft day.

I thought the trade down for Singleton and Agnew was a helluva move

But Mackenzie says he sucks. :bricks:

He won't be a DE at the next level but he will be able to neutralize a dominant TE in the passing game.
