Brandon Lloyd - I dunno...

haha, Randy Moss and Welker have really made it hard for Patriots WRs these days.

It's like if you don't come in here and put up 1100+ 7+ TDs you're not good enough.

I think for a WR/QB in their first year together that's a good year. I honestly would be pretty pleased if if you would have told me that's his production at the start of the season.

... I'm just not feeling it. Sure, he had a couple nice games recently, but yesterday looked to me like the majority of this season. Is there some kind of chemistry between he and Brady that I'm missing? I try not to be negative, but I'm not all that enthusiastic about his role in this O. Fortunately, the O has mostly been fine without him, which is irrelevant to this matter.

He took a pay cut to come here and be the 4th option. He has 902 yards...I dunno either

He's never been a burner. He hasn't got lightening speed. The only people disappointed are those who overreacted and misinterpreted the signing. I said at the start of the season 70 catches for around 1k would more than fulfill his role in this offence, with the weapons it has. He has those 70. A tiny bit more yardage after the catch would have been nice, but overall he has filled his job description and lived up to his name; not spectacular, but adjust to the ball as well as anyone and makes the tough catches.

What did you expect in this offence? Another Moss?

All this Lloyd criticism is anon starter. It's mediot trouble stirring when they forget they were the ones reporting how little a focal point he would be when we signed him.

a few weeks back, when he had only 4 deep ball catches - most of which came at the beginning of the season, the were questions as to whether Lloyd - recognized as a good all around WR - could be the deep threat we really needed.

In the past few games he's doubled his deep catch output (balls thrown over 20 yards) and I think in this last game you saw defenses having to account for him - to the point that he was used to draw defenders away from other players.

That's a huge help going into the playoffs.

The only people upset about Lloyd are people who never watched him play before and who expected Randy Moss jr.

He's been great, overall. And he's cheap. It's just another example of fantasy football analysis bleeding into real life.

It's funny, the original poster sounds exactly like my dad. My dad just has 'something' against him. It's always the 'I don't know what you see in him. He seems to always drop the ball. For a deep threat I haven't seen him catch many downfield. etc, etc"

I think there are two factions to the Brandon Lloyd camp. There are those who expect acrobatic catches and long bomb receptions to replicate the breakout numbers he had in Denver. THose people WILL be disappointed. There simply aren't enough balls to go around. Until recently he hadn't caught many deep passes so I could kind of buy their argument there.

Then there are those people who really just want him to be better than Ocho from last year. Those people are more than happy with his production. While he is not always in the flow of the game, Lloyd makes acrobatic catches (not of the deep variety, but acrobatic none-the-less). He gets open and gets involved in the flow of the game.

900 yards is nothing to scoff at.

We're a two tight end oriented offense. The offense has been out of synch most of the year due to the absence of either Hernandez or gronk.

When they get back to their original offense, having a guy who can work the sidelines like Lloyd, looser coverage for Welker and a crafty guy like Branch to get an occasional first down we should be awesome.

I wish we'd worked Vereen in more as a passing threat, but that's on him. I think Woodhead is going to make some key plays, he's feeling it.

I think he had some problems mid season with drops on passes right in his chest. But now I like him. He makes good catches and moves the chain, even do he doesn't run too much after the pass, he has started doing that some too which I like.

I mean, he is not Moss, but who in their right mind expected him too sudenly become a HOF? I think he opens the field up som more with out routes and takes som pressure away from the middle. I like what he does and for him price he has been well worth it.

hes never going to be number one in our offense, but hes making Chad johnson look like a peewee football player.

Not sure I understand the point of this thread.

Brandon Lloyd, after 15 games, has the 23rd best season all-time in receptions with 73, and if he catches 7 balls against the Dolphins, he moves inside the top 20 all-time in his first season with the Patriots.

I guess it depends on what you want him to do - my main desire for the WR position was to open up the field with a legitimate deep threat.

Lloyd's stats there aren't eye popping - but they're good enough to make him a credible deep threat. He's made about 8 deep catches this season - has been targeted several more times (when Brady has under or over thrown him) and I think DC's know that they need to account for him on every play or he can hurt them.

So he's a credible enough deep threat in my estimation. Beyond that his ability and willingness to block, and also serve as a draw to free up other players (Woodhead for example) are all the types of things Belichick and Brady value but don't show up on the stat sheet.

Given the price we paid for him I'm pretty darn happy with having a versatile WR.

So basically you made a thread because your gut doesn't like Lloyd and you have nothing beyond that to indict the guy?

Sheesh.

He does not have deep speed or quickness but other than that he is a good receiver ;^) He would make a nice number 2 or 3 WR.

The Patriots basically have no WRs. When the Patriots are facing a team with good CBs (i.e. the Seahawks) the Patriots WRs only merit single coverage freeing up the safeties to create all sorts of mischief. The biggest hole the Patriots currently have (after Talib and Fonsie get back) is at WR.

So, in your eyes, a guy who will come close to/exceed 1000 yards is a "nice" #3. What would our #1 have to pop for ... 2100?

He's beat guys deep before - beating guys deep can be done with guile as well as speed - Lloyd seems to have just enough of both to get the job done deep occasionally enough to keep defenses honest in my estimation.

I expect you'll see Brady spreading the field and targeting numerous receivers in the Dolphins game - not only in an effort to win that game, but to set the tone for the playoffs and keep DCs guessing.

I wouldn't mind a true #1 WR - I just don't want to pay for one and its cap hit.

If Lloyd is getting the job done keeping defenses honest and stretching the field at his bargain price, that's just more money to go to another needed position.

I think Llyod has done just fine for the most part, especially when you look at his stats for the year.

He seems to have progressed in many areas as the year has gone on, and his chemistry with Brady is much better than it initially was (in my opinion).

I think he's done just fine, especially considering our injuries to Hernandez/Gronk/Edelman, and next year he may really step up to fulfill the lofty expectations that so many had coming in to the year.

He's done well IMO. He could break 1k yards after this weekend. That's pretty good considering the pile of **** that we got with ochocinco. Hopefully he can break out in the post season. There are some guys that turn into monsters in the post season but are relatively tame in the regular season (Pierre Garcon comes to mind).

The Patriots do not have any WRs to speak of; it s quite amazing that the Patriots have gotten this far with a legit WR. Sure Lloyd has a lot of yards but he does not scare defense the way Randy Moss did. The problem is that he only commands single coverage leaving the safeties free to cause trouble. The Patriots do not have anyone WRs to take the top off the defense.

Yet we still field the #1 offense in the NFL:rocker:

Definitely a must in the offseason to resign Welker and add another WR with speed.

Forget this. We've got a new stat to throw around. #3 offense all time.

he has 74catches and 900+ yards...I think he has been just fine...those expecting him to be moss were expecting too much imo.

the pats may not have many true "wide receivers" but they have one of the best receiving corps in the NFL because Hernandez/Gronkowski are also receivers(not to mention woodhead)
