Here's how I figure today's events. The Pats have an equal or better schedule to the Texans and Broncos after today. But those tems are ahead in the standings. So, I kind of see it that the Pats have two chances to get to the second round of the playoffs: win tonight or win in three weeks.

A win tonight puts them on the inside track for a bye to the second week. A loss tonight makes a bye doubtful or at least difficult. So, they will have to play Cinci, Pittsburgh or Indy in three weeks. So, two chances. I hope they close 'em down tonight.

That is such BS. Didn't they say that when the Pats played the Bears in a blizzard in 2010? Didn't they say that when the Pats played the Steelers in driving rain I think in 2009?

Weather like this can hurt the defenders much more because they have to keep up with the Pats who like to run a lot of complicated routes. It is tougher to keep your footing when you are chasing someone and you don't know where they are going. At least that is what it seems like.

Ah, I remember watching the Bears local football show the week leading up to that and one guy said he thought the weather favored the Bears as cold windy snow was Bears weather. To the hosts credit he did call him on it by sarcastically saying he believes it snows in Foxboro once in a while and its not like their playing a Florida team.

When I look to cap games and there is a good offense playing in moderately bad weather or snow and the O/U is low I typically hammer the over. I think bad weather with extreme exceptions the Steelers-Dolphins game a few years ago comes to mind, favors the offense.

WTH...they are going to move the game to nbc sports network when the president is speaking ? But i dont get the nbc sports network...

Not that this will make you feel better but you can watch the game online at nbcsports.com as well.

According to playoffstatus.com, if the Pats lose they still have a 1 in 6 chance of getting a first round bye.

OTOH, even if they win, they still have a 1 in 6 chance of not getting a bye.

[On a related note: the Patriots could not clinch anything this week, nor could they have been eliminated from any spot from 1 to 4.]

1. A hit on special teams with White out. Veteran linebacker Tracy White (elbow) is a core member of special teams, so that’s four spots to fill -- punt coverage, kickoff coverage, punt return and kickoff return. Fullback James Develin, making his NFL debut, could be his replacement. White is also a top backup linebacker, although the Patriots often go just three-deep with Jerod Mayo, Brandon Spikes and Dont'a Hightower.

2. Eyes on tight end depth chart. With Rob Gronkowski missing his fourth straight game, the Patriots have Aaron Hernandez, Michael Hoomanawanui and Daniel Fells on the depth chart. Hoomanawanui played a season-high 43 snaps last week, while Fells had nine -- a noticeable change on the depth chart at the No. 2 tight-end spot.

3. Bequette bumped out again by Jones. With rookie defensive end Chandler Jones back for the second game in a row, fellow rookie Jake Bequette is out for the second straight week. Bequette, the third-round pick out of Arkansas, remains behind rookie Justin Francis on the depth chart.

4. Brace out for second straight week. Defensive lineman Ron Brace, who has been limited by an elbow injury in practices, is inactive for the second week in a row. Brace has played 92 defensive snaps this season as the No. 4 option on the depth chart. This highlights how the Patriots are a bit thin with the big bodies up front, with just Vince Wilfork, Brandon Deaderick and Kyle Love.

I'm keeping the nbcsports.com window open just in case the prez starts talking.Don't get me wrong, I feel terrible about those kids. I also want to watch this game.

Don't normally watch the pregame show BUT there will be an interview with Vince W today, saw an excerpt, make you appreciate him as a leader in the locker room a guy who get it, a real Patriot player.

Don't miss it.

Collinsworth and Hines Ward :Weather favors the 49ers and can effect pats WRs.

Those two clearly don't realize that Brady and the Pats lit up the Ravens in weather worse than that a few years ago..

in about a half hour from now....

Surprised they don't have him talk on cbs or something. They can delay 60minutes with a random celebrity for one night can't they?

A prediction: we see Alex smith on the field at some point today

Even so, clear weather favors the patriots. super cold weather favors the patriots. rainy cool weather favors the 49ers.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats dominated; I also wouldn't be surprised if rain caused issues in the passing game and helped the 49ers out.
