Midpoint check: Super Bowl odds

I'd rather play the Giants just for the chance to wipe the field with them. Losing to them doesn't bother me much.

God, I hope Talib plays corner like a bat outta hell. I want this team to stomp people into submission.

The problem is that the flip side is also true:

There would be no way to lose a Super Bowl than to do it against the Giants.

Eh, different strokes. Before XLVI last year, I said that if the Pats lost, it ultimately wouldn't hurt as much, if at all, because the loss in XLII was so painful that nothing could have ever been worse. While I was wrong on the "if at all" part, I found that the loss didn't hurt as badly in retrospect.

If Eli ties Brady's ring total by going 3-0 against Brady to get them, you'll be fine with that?

Thanks for the link, Deus. Hard to play the "disrespect card" when we're in the top two despite a 5--3 record.

One of the factoids that has always stuck in my sieve of a brain is that the Pats were 70--1 going into the 2001 season; at 4--4 that year after eight games, with an untested QB replacing a Pro Bowler, I doubt very much those odds had improved for the Pats at this stage of the season; if anything, they were probably in the 100--1 range!

So, in recognition of that, here are the remaining teams down to 75--1, because, as in 2001, "You never know":

Dallas Cowboys 60/1

San Diego Chargers 60/1

Miami Dolphins 66/1

Seattle Seahawks 66/1

Detroit Lions 75/1

New Orleans Saints 75/1

Philadelphia Eagles 75/1.

Never said that. But...

1. It will never hurt as bad as XLII.

2. If Eli is going to the Super Bowl to tie Brady's ring record, I want Brady as his road block.

I understand what you mean and actually agree. The 2007 loss was especially painful, not only for the Sports Pantheon Immortality that eluded the Patriots as a result, but for HOW they lost...an unmakeable catch made by a third stringer who would never play another down in the NFL. Last year, Eli made the big play they had to make with a perfect throw to Manningham and we, quite literally, let victory slip through our fingers.

I'll admit that it's like comparing the pain of putting your hand into boiling water vs. boiling oil, but it still hurt a little less.

Since I just agreed with Kontra's original comment, I'll answer for myself. Of course I wouldn't be "fine with that." I'd be suicidal (or just about).

But I wouldn't complain, especially if he beat Brady for a third time to achieve the record. As Kontra also observed, it's why I want the Pats in the SB against Eli if he gets there again; we're the only team I trust to beat the bastard in a clutch game, even if we've failed miserably thereat in the past.

First win, ******* lucky.
Second win, pretty damn good.
Third win, time for us to shut up.

No frickin' way, guys. Sorry. Not for me.

Of course.

IF Wes had caught that ball.........................

:bricks:

if we have to face the giants...again...i will not watch the SB..nope..can't do it again

Sure you will. And who knows? Maybe next time, Gronk is healthy, Wes catches the ball, our D can stop a JV squad, and the ball (literally) doesn't always bounce their way.

I'm not normally a betting man but if a Giants-Patriots re-match occurs, I'm putting a lot of money on the Giants. That way, if they stuff my hope for a 4th Lombardi for Brady, I'll be drinking the very finest top shelf with the winnings. Conversely, if the Patriots win, it's only money.

I won't watch. I really can't do it if they somehow play the giants this year again ( don't think the pats will make the SB)

Great idea, slap down $100K on the Giants. Pats win, it because there's no way YOU would ever win a bet like that and you can take credit for the Pats win. Giants win and you can take the year off and drown your sorrows.

Got $100K?

Who said anything about taking credit for the win? I'm not running out on weekends coaching or playing in the NFL.

Don't want to see the Giants in the SuperBowl. Losing to them for the third time would feel worse than beating them would feel good. No, thanks.

Agreed 100% I want absolutely zero to do with the Giants, heck i did not want them the first time, thought hot shot Farve would of been a better match up (given he retired like twice with each time his last throw was a int and is too much of a hot dog that he could not help himself get into a trap by th pats) and then again in SB 46 I did not want the giants as thought mr. 2-11 Alex Smith was a better match up for the pats . . .

And I could care less about lets win on for teh gripper and get back at the gmen, I had to go through all of this in the last SB . . .

If we win 2-3 more then we can play loose and fast with revenge . . .

Also too, the refs seemed to get too frisky with the flags in our two SBs and I don't want those thoughts in the back of my head watching a SB, its stressful enough thank you . . .

give SF or ATlL . . .

Sorry not for me . . . I just want a win in the SB . . . too many freaky things have happened against the Gmen, even in the regular season, . . . and many times it involves the refs . . . I have ZERO interests in playing and team that appears to be one that the NFL does not mind winning . . . give me a team that the NFL doesn't care about, like the 2005 Seahawks, and I will be fine . . . i dont want another crushing loss and then get a mea culpa letter from the NFL like after the 2006 AFCCG . . .

For me, if we have the good fortune to make the SB, I just want to simply watch it, enjoy it, and have no other side issues involved that get in my way of enjoying it . . . plain and simple for me . . .

The way I see it there's no way to get "even" with the Giants at this point, save for beating them in two straight Super Bowls with one of them culminating a 19-0 season. And that's not happening. The damage is done, the images are haunting. It's very defeatist to say the Giants have the Pats' number, but that's how it's looked. If the Pats get to the SB and the Giants are waiting for them there then so be it, but I'm done hoping for revenge and just want to see Brady get another ring or two before his time runs out, regardless of who the opponent is.

Some of our fans are definitely showing a lot of fear of loss to the Giants. I can understand the humiliation of a third defeat. It scares me too.

But shouldn't we face our fears? Just saying if we don't, it's always going to be there...

Besides, I have nothing against Eli and he's not playing against Brady even if he gets his third ring. He's playing against our defense. But on the flip side nothing would be more satisfying than Brady and the gang doing what they failed to do this past superbowl and blowing that defense apart. Nothing would make me happier than to see Tuck's and JPP's face after such a loss. They hounded Brady enough. It truly would be the sweetest of revenge. It's not our mouths that need to be shut. It's those 2.
