Danger Zone coming along to nip at my heels? Upping the shock level to heights previously unknown.

The O.P.'s post was a dig at everyone who's been down on McCourty, and this was a thread that should never have been started, particularly by a Mod. Go yip at him.

There is nothing wrong with this thread topic.

In the meantime, this thread is fine for people to debate on both sides of the subject.

If you want to censure that, I got news for ya.....you're going to be disappointed.

The site may crash when I defend Deus here, but I don't think he is saying the OP is not allowed, but that calling out McCourty haters with the 'proof' of a positive BB comment about him.

Now to reset order in the world, I will point out that Deus and I are diametrically opposed in our views on McCourty's play this year. OK, Karma restored.

Well it is 2012......................

Devin's got my support. I think other than a few blips (some big ones) here and there, I think he is having a very good season.

The games where he has had some lapses also happen to be the games when the front 7 had some lapses.

It's a team sport. He looks awful when the defense looks awful and he looks great when the whole defense looks great.

None of that is by coincidence.

you have to get any QB's head down looking at the rush in this league...if you let him sit in the pocket without fear of hits with open looks downfield, even turds like "Sanchize!!!" will tear you apart...wait...maybe I was hasty with that...uh, Rex Grossman...yeah that's better...

its only 4 games, but its a good start.

you can moan and groan about who hes faced all you want, but it is a rarity that the pats face an elite qb during ANY season.

the main problem i see is that, thus far, he is giving up bigger plays than his rookie season...though not as big as last year.

Entitlement theory applied to posters on chat forums makes for interesting reading. ;)

Statistical analysis saying that McCourty has been solid if not better than his rookie year when he made the probowl? i'm sorry that's not allowed in this thread. The argument needs to be pro McCourty says they think he has done well and McCourty haters say no but did you see that PI call and he isn't playing against Aaron Rogers.

McCourty has been fine, he's had a solid season, could he have been burned one or 2 more times? yep. But on the flip side if he latches on to the 3 int's he has had his hands on he'd have had 5 Int's so far and probably would have iced the Ravens game as well and we'd all be singing his praises.

Considering Mike Reiss mentioned the same clip in his Sunday notes column and Belichick was specifically calling out McCourty bashers, I think the thread is a legitimate thread.

From Reiss' quick hits column:

5. A couple of nuggets from the weekly Patriots All-Access program that caught the eye this week: In his postgame speech to players after the 52-28 win over the Bills, Bill Belichick singled out cornerback Devin McCourty and told him that while he might not have much support from those outside of the locker room (a reference to the media, it would seem), he'd go with him any day. The other outside-the-box nugget that interested me was Belichick's explanation on why he keeps his red challenge flag in his sock. The long answer short: He feels it's the most secure place, and doesn't want to mistakenly have it fall out of his pocket and be assessed a challenge when he doesn't want one.

I wish a more credible source than PFF would have posted these numbers, but even they couldn't screw up the drastic drop in number of targets McCourty's way.

Actually the targets are the same, its the results of those targets.
Agreed PFF is useless, but that does confirm to some extent what we are seeing.

If those were from the last 2 seasons then how the hell do you say teams are targeting McC less?

4 Games played,29 targets.......last time I looked 29x4 = 116 for the season....that would be more than his last 2

Targets are up to 116 if you extrapolate, but completions down to 48. Yards would also be down to 636 and allowing 4 touchdowns with 8 interceptions. That's pretty damn good.

I do think Arrington looks more lost this season than McCourty has thus far.

I would be hardly shocked to see Arrington lose his starting job before too long to either Dowling or Moore

Is it possible to get those numbers for Arrington?

Cause I misread the chart. I don't value PFF to really look at it closely enough. I just looked at the title and assumed it was the first three games of each year.

But if PFF is right, even if he is targeted more, the opposing team's success rate is far, far, far less. And some mediocre QBs looked like Rodgers against him last year.

The fact remains that BB has never bad mouthed one of his own players to the media.

Not even Ocho Stinko.

Not bad mouthing a player to the media and what you see in the clip are two totally different things. What we saw in that clip was BB affirming a player that he has the full confidence of the coaching staff and he will continue to be given the time to learn and grow into the position. What everyone on this board who wants the kid axed seem to be forgetting is that the kid is ONLY in his THIRD season. Those same people will sing the praises of guys like Bruschi and Vrabel, two guys who took a while to develop before becoming the legendary Patriots that they became.

I honestly wouldn't care if Mccourty was targeted 200 times as long as the opposing quarterback rating throwing his way was 42.4.

If he plays good today then i'm ready to believe in him. I don't think he is horrible or bad, I just don't think that he is much more than average. The problem on this forum is that when he misses a receiver he is the worst in the league but when he the next game gets a pick on a horribly under thrown ball he is suddenly amazing.

I don't want him to fail, I wan't him to be a pro bowler but he have to prove is by shutting good receivers and good qbs down.

I looked back at his first pick vs bills in coach tape and patriots played cover 3 so he was beaten. You can not trail if you have deep coverage. That can't happen versus Broncos with Thomas who will burn you. That second pick do was a really good adjustment to the ball.

I think he has looked good this year except for a couple of passes. He just gotta be more consistent.

I'm excited to see him today and I think he can have a good game after getting some confidence after his picks last week.
