I know the scouting department knows far more than I do, but if they wanted a DB what exactly does the rugby player bring to the table that CB Chase Minnifield, SS Antonio Allen or FS Aaron Henry do not? Rugby mentality for special teams?

Here's two things: He is apparently a better athlete and a better special teamer than those others. Any of the above would be an incredible longshot to stick on the defensive roster, so you might as well go with an outstanding special teamer. FWIW, my draft guide quotes a scout saying that Minnifield can't play. League GM's apparently agree.

Tavon Wilson is a DB..

As for Chase Minnifield, many have mentioned that he had micro-fracture surgery and is expected to miss this entire year.

As for Antonio Allen or Aaron Henry, don't know what to tell you, though there could have been medical red flags on Allen that the Pats didn't like..

I think someone else made the picks in the first round for us......ever since then...it has been pure Bill Belichick!!!! Guys that are predicted to go in the 6th round taken in the 2nd.....guys that played more rugby than football and were NOT EVEN ON anyone's radar.....Taken in the 6th while MUCH Better positional players remain on the board. I am usually prepared for the typical BB draft....picking guys no one has heard of, taking guys that are predicted to go much later or not at all....early. But because he picked so WELL and somewhat consistently in the first.....threw me off my usual draft day mentality!!!!

I am guessing that he is going to address our special teams deficits of the last 2 years with Ebner (WHO?) and Wilson. Wilson might be a fill in at CB/S ala Sergio Brown....but don't expect to much from him. Ebner must be the reincarnation of Larry Izzo....career special teamer. Let's hope he has the success and longevity of Izzo.....

Yeah, I read on Twitter they were openly laughing at the pick. One more reason I watch NFLN instead. Even that STUPID Droid commercial can't sway me to switch to that network.

Rugby players are arguably tougher than football players since they do roughly the same thing without pads. Could he be a bust? Sure as will many 6th rounders. Sliders that drop this far clearly have flaws that are common knowledge to everyone. Diamonds in the rough like this guy are so much fun to root for. Kiper's negative reaction was just one more endorsement for the real scouting professionals.

Yeah, it's on Kiper and McShay for not being loaded for bear about a college special teamer who got 3 snaps other than those STs.
