I think Indy takes Upshaw at 34. They are switching to the 3-4 and looking to deal Freeney. They will need a stack and shed olb. Upshaw would be a good fit. Put Mathis on the weak side. Bedard has been saying we like Trumaine Johnson. I think Jenkins or him might fall to 48. I think a lot of wr's and ol are going at the top of round 2.

I agree that there will be a run on OL and WR early in round 2. Cle bad Stl should both go WR and there are a bunch of teams that need OL help. With Indy, I would be surprised if they didn't take Fleener because they really need to give Luck some weapons. Either way I think there will be a quality player available at 48, I just hope we stay there.

I'd like to see Pats get a an above CB via draft or trade. No problem here if they got Jenkins. Secondary to me still needs an upgrade that an opposing O coordinator has something to think about and plan for. Other teams knowing their gettin 400 + yards on "O" has to end NOW!

I'd really like to add Trumaine Johnson and then take the other pick and trade it for other picks over the weekend (not sure what the value chart is, but maybe a 2nd is worth a 3rd a 5th and a 7th?).

If we keep both picks, I'd like Johnson and then really, just best player available, barring a few positions.

My preference is 2 DBs, I can live with a DE/DT and a DB. Then we would have 4 solid picks and BB can take the weekend off and head for the Vinyard, and we pats fans can let the rest of the league worry about what will happen in the last 5 rounds of the draft. Quite a difference from the last several drafts.

Ironically this is a draft haul that a Jet fan would be familiar with.

My ideal Day 2 for the Pats... Lots of Trading Down *ducks*
Id like to see a way that the Pats can draft their CB/S in rd2, pick up a 2 next year and have the inevitable later round picks they like (3,4,a few later?)

(Scenario: maybe trading 48 for a later 2nd and pick up a late 3rd/early 4th and drafting a CB/S (Tru Johnson or Boykin) and moving our 2nd for a 2nd next year and a late 3rd and using the pair of 3rds on a OG/DE/WR... That or moving a 3rd for early 4 and 5)

I like the stockpile for next year approach and losing out on our perennial 2 1sts can be softened by picking up at least a 2nd... But i couldnt be happier with the first round.

You and me both. I would have thought DL or DB in the second, unless a burner WR is available. I'd like to see some G help, but we don't have the late picks. I still think they down trade to gain some additional picks in the mid rounds.

Why would that be so bad? Young running backs have demonstrated the ability to function in this offense. Young receivers have not.

Personally I'd love to see defensive backs and nothing but if the Pats stand pat, but if the value isn't there a fifth running back to go with Ridley/Vereen/Woodhead/whoever-sorta-plays-fullback would be just fine. There's an open roster spot there.

I personally wouldn't be too thrilled with what it says about vereen/ridley if we were to take another one. 2nd round seems awfully high for depth at RB.

What do people think about trading for Mike Jenkins with a pick from next year? that might free us up to get two of safety/WR/DL and be truly set.

They drafted a pair of RBs last year. They don't need another young RB unless those two are busts.

All the above are legitimate needs, IMO, and some of them even have a lot of talent available in round two.

Janoris Jenkins and then trade back with the 2nd pick.

Jenkins improves the secondary straight away and trading back into later rounds opens up the chance to pick up some project players like Dale Moss in round 7.

They had Doug Martin, David Wilson and Isaiah Pead in for private workouts so the interest is clearly there. Would it help if I said that Pead is a quality punt returner, was MVP at the Senior Bowl and looks to be a Kevin Faulk type, although in need of help with his blitz pickup?

Chase Minnifield - on my Pats list for two seasons. Excellent sub-package prospect. Solid all-around player w/ ball skills.

Josh Robinson - maybe the draft's fastest CB, but most attractive is this unmentioned fact: Tied Asante Samuel's passes defensed record (interceptions & tipped passes) at Central Florida.

This Pats defense needs to get off the field earlier. By improving the run D and pass rush (Jones, Hightower, and the FA signings), and by adding a CB w/ ball skills, the entire D will have taken a huge leap forward in accomplishing that objective.

Ryan Broyles - BB likes production. Broyles is head and shoulders above every WR prospect as the career leader in receptions and TDs. The majority of his catches were 10 yds from the LOS (sound familiar). Is Pats-ready. We have Welker -- but for how long? And do we need injury insurance?

Greg Childs - was Ryan Mallett's go-to receiver. Has impressive size/speed and is an exc blocker. Played in a complex Pro-style offense. The Pats haven't faired too well in developing their WRs, so re-uniting him with his former QB allows both players to learn the offense together -- and hopefully quicker.

Note: Those four range from rounds 2-4. With our two second-rounders, we could select at one round two slot, trade out from the other, and still get two of these prospects while acquiring a pick for 2013.

Given injury rates at the position, especially considering the Pats' historical penchant for running out of healthy backs deep in the playoffs, and the continuing quest to find a runner who can dependably make defenses pay for taking safeties away from their alleys, AND the efficacy of having young running backs over older, worn-down runners on more expensive conttacts, I still see value in taking a running back around pick 60.

Again, not my favorite area of need, but certainly a roster fit.
