Remember we are coming from the starting point of me saying I don't believe 1 good season proves they have 'arrived' as an elite team.
Longshots like Moss all of a sudden being better than the guy who flunked out of the league 2 years ago don't really answer to that. Whether Harbaugh is a great is still to proven in the most generous of analysis. Whether a defense stays excellent after 1 excellent year is no guarantee, and the entire discussion about the schedule was you adding it, not me.

I'm not sure what you have added that would be a good argument that they are a proven elite team after 1 good season.
It seems you are creating an argument where once doesn't exist.

Andy, follow along please...

In post #805, which is where I jumped in, you said, "They have to do it more than once for me to believe they are for real." I then responded in post #806, "Reasons *to* think they are for real"...

So what we're discussing is whether the 49ers are "for real". I guess to you that means that they are a "proven elite team". To me it means that they are really good and an upper echelon team. So maybe we're splitting hairs.

And obviously I can't change your mind, but to me, a WR corps of Manningham + Moss + Crabtree is much better than Crabtree + dreck that they had last year. That's an improvement. And they haven't lost anything of significance from last year's team. Your counter-arguments about schedule are not convincing, for reasons I've stated.

Obviously we have no idea what their final record will be next year. They could be *better* and yet go 12-4, if your point about a much harder schedule is true. But there are plenty of reasons to believe that the 2012 49ers will be a terrific football team, whether you find them convincing or not.

They could have had Luck or RG3 but no they had to try to win a few in the second half. Lol at their worthless pride, I say.

Scenario:

Smith gets impatient and/or panics, and signs with Miami
Manning decides to go to Tennessee

That leaves San Francisco scrambling, likely stuck with Hasselbeck for his last season or two, and with a long-term QB problem, all because they went for the fivehead and missed out.

I've been reading some of the tweets from Phin fans and the Blow for Barkley campaign has already begun

They drafted Kaepernick with a high second round pick.

LOL! After the Jets were positive that they would get Reggie Nelson, he re-signs with the Bengals. Apparently Nelson chose the Jets earlier this morning, but he then let the Bengals up their offer to out bid them.

Probably means that the Jets will overpay for Landry. Hopefully the Pats won't get in a bidding war for him. I would like him to sign with the Pats, but I don't want the Pats to get stuck with a contract they will have trouble getting out from under if he continues to be an injury problem.

@AdamSchefter: Big pickup: Bengals reached agreement with safety Reggie Nelson. Jets now will need to look elsewhere.

Ahaha. Not sure how I feel about this though. It's nice that the Jets missed out on the FS they needed badly, but now they might drive up the price for Landry who we need badly.

Bengals re-sign Reggie Nelson

Bengals re-sign Reggie Nelson | ProFootballTalk

Despite drawing interest from several other teams, free agent defensive back Reggie Nelson won’t leave Cincinnati.

Nelson has re-signed with the Bengals, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. There’s no immediate word on the terms of the contract.

In 2011 Nelson was a major presence on a surprisingly good Bengals defense. He started all 16 games, had four interceptions (including one he returned for a 75-yard touchdown in a win over the Seahawks), 12 passes defensed and two sacks.

Among the teams most interested in Nelson were the Jets, who made him an offer. But in the end Nelson decided to stay where he was, and he’ll be back in Cincinnati.

Poor Wrecks, can't improve the Jets offense, can't improve the Jets defense.

Got played like a Jet!

Almost a guarantee the Jets will $$ Landry. Now the question... Does he want the cash or the wins? Or maybe just muscle milk...

There were Tweets earlier (posted in the Landry thread) saying that he wants to sign for the Patriots and will sign if the offers are "close".

They should of had Sanchez, the team leader, talk to him...:bricks:

Well they tried, but they mistakenly told him that Nelson was a defender who is good at picking off QBs' errant throws and Mark hid under his bed in his foot pajamas.

What if they give him Muscle Milk daily?

I never argued the schedule, that was you.
My point is very simple. They may very well have significantly overachieved last year. So the starting point of 13-3 may be flawed.
Am I not allowed to want them to have 2 winning seasons in a row before saying they are a legitimate contender? Do I really have to accept that a guy wo caught 39 passes last year and a guy who caught 6 in the last 8 games of 2010 then retired are a substantial upgrade to a rotation of players who dealt with injuries?

I am saying I am not convinced based on 1 year that they are as good as that record showed. It happens. You seem intent on not allowing me to have that opinion.

Jets will overpay for Landry..but i hope they get him..because he won't be on the field that much

Be the leader of a young, talented secondary and have a chance to be on a historic team.

OR.

Be a fahkin Jet.
