So Anderson has a visit with a division rival..hope it isn't the jets

He was reportedly told he would have to, but we haven't heard any confirmation that it's been done and it doesn't guarantee him a spot on the 53. He was due to count $4.5M against the cap with a $3M salary. And he has a $3M dead cap figure.

If he is cut and they treat him as a June 1 cut, his dead cap would be $1.5M in 2012 ($3M cap saving) and $1.5M in 2013 ($3M cap saving). If they cut him and take the full dead cap hit this season he's a wash. If he restructures to $1.5M and remains his cap hit remains $3M.

$3M per year could pay 60-75% of a Lloyd contract for the next two years... And if Welker were signed to a $9M AAV deal allow you to have he and Lloyd on the roster for about $1M more than it cost to have Moss and Welker on the roster from 2008-2010.

The Patriots have never cut a veteran during the same year in which he re-negotiated his contract. If Ocho re-negotiates, then he's here to stay. It's bad business to cut a guy who just renegotiated to stay on the team and it will cause other players to be hesitant in re-negotiating.

Just off the top of my head but I recall another....

Haynesworth restructured and was cut in the same year.

It's bad business to retain a player you've overpaid to perform when he doesn't. That takes money out of everyone elses's pocket or restricts you from surrounding them with the teamates they need to be in a position to win. This is supposed to be a meritocracy and guys are supposed to be held accountable for their own performance. Players don't always like it when a guy gets hurt and then doesn't get his job back when he's healthy, either, but if Bill finds someone in the interim who does that guys job better guess what happens?

It's the Dolphins, but losing him to a division rival isn't something I am looking for although it is better than the Jets.

Yeah i don't see him back with pats...hope he does **** in MIA if he goes there

Anyone with a clue why the Texans would cut Eric Winston?

He was cut for not giving effort, if he's the only example than I would say that'd be the exception. If he was going "balls to the wall" haynesworth would've been a patriot right now.

Not quite the same as Fat Albert's contract was issued by the 'Skins and th Pats made a restructuring conditional to acquiring him.

Another not quite the same but Brandon McGowan was resigned by the team but cut during camp. That happens too.

But a big salary going to a small salary then getting cut? Not sure if there is a precident but i'll bet dollars to donuts that if there are 6 receivers in camp fighting for 5 spots and the 5 are outplaying Ocho, he is gone regardless of cap ramifications.

According to Sirius NFL radio, Michael Lombardi is reporting Kamerion Wimbley will be released later today. That is someone the Pats should go after if he doesn't get too expensive.

We've been throwing around that name for a while now, having that said I'm positive the pats don't sign him. Why are they cutting him?

Wimbley is really confusing to me. Is he a SAM in a 4-3? A DE in a 4-3? An OLB in the 3-4? He seems to fit into a lot of places but isn't exceptional at any of them. The upgrade from Ninkovich to Wimbley is marginal at best.

He would have been guaranteed $17.5 million if he was on the roster past tomorrow.

Is it? I think the Jets may be third on the list of division opponents we should be worried about.

Losing Marshall and their QB situation up in the air, I am far less worried about the Dolphins than I am the Bills who may be the second best team in the division as long as they can stay healthy (a big if). The Jets are looking to fix their safety issue and if they can get Nelson, Landry, and Anderson their defense may rebound next year.

I don't think it is a great chance they would sign him, but I think it is a possibility unless people offer him stupid money.

As someone pointed out, apparently the cap isn't crap and the Raiders had no choice but cut him because he was due a roster bonus that they couldn't get under the cap.

Haynesworth's restructured his deal to facilitate the trade. Not to stay on the team. That is the difference.

Per Rotoworld

Brandon Lloyd - WR - Rams

Sources close to the 49ers tell CSN New England that free agent Brandon Lloyd's visit with the team was likely a favor for agent Tom Condon.

It's customary behavior this time of year, done to help an agent show the rest of the league that there is a market for his client. So far, though, the 49ers are Lloyd's only known visit. His public campaigning to join the Patriots could be scaring off potential suitors.

It was a favor to condon. Condon is using the niners as a ploy to increase lloyd's asking price.

Sign the beast! he plays defense!...ps. who is he??

MaryKayCabot: Breaking: #Browns will release defensive end Jayme Mitchell today, a league source told the plain dealer. Started 13 games last season.
