Laurent Robinson and Robert Meachum could probably stretch the field like he can, but I don't think either as a complete of a WR.

And Bills going hard after Meachum..so really Robinson, Lloyd and Wallace (but a much higher price)

why are we not trying for Meachem, when he is ready to go to Buffalo, why not atleast give me a physical.. I don't get it..

anyway, what do I know...

Lloyd and Laurent Robinson are probably the top two receivers left on the market, particularly if you assume Meachem to the Bills.

but, we just signed Koutouvides

Jeez, everyone, every year ***** and moan that the Pats don't make moves in the first 24 hours. The funny thing is a year or two later when it is realized that most of those first day signings are disapointments or outright busts, no one is saying thank God the Pats didn't sign them.

I remember two years ago, people were upset that the Jets showed up at Bart Scott's door at 12:01 of free agency. He has been a loudmouth waste for them the last two years.

And ultimately, the Pats will get Lloyd at a hometown discount without this being his hometown because that is what Lloyd wants.

The inability of the local media to break any real news, particularly about the Patriots, is very disappointing. When a Matthew Slater signing is the highlight of the local reporting, you've had a bad first day of the NFL free agency period.

yeah, I agree with what you say. Question is why a good talent like Meachem not even gets invited to foxboro when that type of talent is a real need, like right now.

Its an honest question and not a chicken little reaction. But again, it is what it is... I guess

Because the Pats can get Brandon Lloyd who is better at a better value. Lloyd has told the rest of the league he wants to play for the Pats and he is letting the Pats know whatever way he can that he will take a discount to play here.

I hope it gets worked out, but I would be curious to know what kind of deal Meachem gets in Buffalo.

Because the Pats will end up signing Lloyd and they are too similar of players. Meachum is also going to be overpaid by the Bills who have taken the strategy of making a big splash the first week of free agency and then sit out the rest of free agency (Carl Nix's words, not mine).

The Pats will sign Lloyd and possibly a lesser WR. Never thought Meachum was ever a possibility.

I think people are overrating Meachem, and I think the Patriots weren't likely to do that, having had enough contact with the Saints to know the player.

the Dink and dunk offense got us farther than i'd thought...but, it made it alot harder on us because teams just clogged the middle of the field.we really need a WR to play the sidelines/stretch the field..

This is the kind of comments that I just dont get.
You speak as if the passing offense was some dysfunctional collection of misfits that squeaked by with smoke and mirrors, when it passed for the 2nd most yards in NFL history and was the only significant strength on a SB team.
Perhaps you have it backwards and other teams should figure out how to do what the Patriots do instead of changing the Patriots into someone else.

My guess that based on their strategy this offseason, the Bills are going to grossly overpay for Meachum. It looks like Wilson knows he isn't long for the world and letting Nix spend crazily to try to win now.

Personally, I don't think Meachum should even be in the first wave of free agent signings. He isn't that good and he may be a product of Drew Brees. Even then, he has never gotten close to 1,000 yards in a season even with Brees breaking Marino's record last season.

Re: Reggie Wayne Re-signs with Colts!

Would've liked to have Wayne here, and the money was right about where I figured it'd be; with the exception of a 3 yr deal.

I hope they end up with Lloyd, and the free agent signings surely aren't helping their negotiations with Welker any--if they even intend on keeping him past this yr.

Brees spreads the ball so much that for folks like me it is difficult to judge what he is capable of. so pats are in a way like me, I never enter a store if I'm not planning to buy there ;)

so looking forward to the Lloyd signing

Well... I.. guess I could give you a physical... if you really want one.

But, I can't process your bloodwork on site.. and I don't take MassHealth

:D

Who says he wasn't? Why do fans assume the Patriots can snap their fingers and FAs will ignore the other 31 teams and come running?
Would you want to come to a team that has 3 guys who caught 291 passes for 3800 yards and 36 TDs? WRs may not see this as the ideal destination because many are worried about being the center of attention.
Meachem is running away from NO even though they have Brees because he wants to go to a team with less weapons so he is more likely to be the primary target. (My speculation, not any fact Ive found)

My bad, and the stupid spell checker :p

do you take BCBS of MA though ? :D

Look, we all agree the Patriots have some holes to fill.

But the panic within the first day of free agency is so beyond laughable.

This is their approach almost every year, including last year, when they made two smart moves in free agency way late in the game - in a season in which they were wiithin a play away from a title during a rebuilding year.

Come on, people. Calm the heck down.

Let these other teams throw money around like idiots. None of these moves put any of these teams over the top, or even close to it. It's a QB/coach league. And our QB/coach led this team, holes and all, to the Super Bowl.

As long as the Patriots make disciplined, smart moves over the next few months, and fill their obvious needs as best they can, they will be huge favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, again.

Now, if we enter training camp with a secondary in shambles again, well then we might have some panic. But until then, relax. Enjoy watching the other teams scramble to just stay mediocre.
