Cortland Finnegan, Rams, 5 years, 50 million.

I thought he'd average out at abou t 9 per, so he's ahead of where I thought he's be. Congratulations to him. *

*Devil's in the details, of course

So we're going to re up some JAG's, sign a TE, maybe a WR, and a RB... and "explore" some safeties.... boy do I feel better! It's pretty obvious it's the Pats offense that needs a lot of help. The D is pretty much set, except for some depth at Safety....

:bricks:

No that is what Mike Reiss is guessing the approach will be.
If yoiu want to feel better type up the 5 steps you want them to take, and I will post that and it will mean just as much.

Free agency is hilarious!

I'm not even sure Id take him over Arrington.

Why is it hilarious? When you want someone you go get him, and if you have to overpay for someone you think is worth it and will make an impact for your team then thats what you do.

Why didn't we re-sign our own guys like Slater, Connolly and Ihedigbo before the start of free agency? Its not like we had to wait and see how the market developed for these guys. It seems we are just wasting time now on things that we could have handled over the past week, instead of using that time actually talking to free agents. I'm not saying that it would actually lead to any big signings, but it just seems like an inefficient use of time to me. Is there something behind this that I don't understand?

I think you're making much ado over nothing. The Patriots are waiting for their market value to be established so they do not have to overpay.

Most likely seeing if any players from other teams were cut and would be upgrades over who we have?

They paid an above average CB 10mil a year.

The same reason about 20 other teams did the same thing. The Pats were not the only team that did this.

I get what you're saying but I highly doubt they are not talking to outside free agents because they're so busy trying to re-sign our guys. Lots of re-signings going on today throughout the entire NFL, from the large new contracts down to the simple 1 year deals. The Pats aren't alone in not having everyone re-signed yet.

For all we know they were trying to resign them. their agents may have thought the pats offer was too low so wanted to test FA.

Pats may get them at their price now if there was little FA offers. Its just very hard for us as fans to know.

I find it hard to believe they were just wasting time before FA and weren't trying to get deals done with the players they wanted back

They're background deals, and I get that. I just don't get the idea of Reiss making them #1 on the list. If they're truly that level priority, and not the sort of background deals I think they are, they should have been done already.

Vincent Jackson deal in Tampa: 5 yrs, $55.55 million, including $26 million guaranteed, $36 million in 1st 3 yrs, $26 million in 1st 2 yrs.

More detail on VJax deal. Bucs protected themselves long term. They are taking the hit for the $26M in the first two years (letting the cap pay him) and there is no signing bonus or amortization meaning if he screws up down the road they can cut him after two years and not owe him or the cap a dime.

Reggie Wayne signs 3-year deal with Colts. Can't say I saw that coming.

I understand a lot of teams are doing this, I'm just not sure why. With someone like Slater, who there is no way BB would let get away unless he has some ridiculous demands, why not sign him before the start of free agency. If you know they are guys you really want to keep, why not just get them out of the way. I doubt it has any real impact on other free agents, but its one less thing to juggle and worry about.
