Word locally is the Bills don't want Mario to leave without signing a deal and are prepared to make him the highest paid defensive player in the league.

If Buffalo gets Mario, they are going to have a devastating front 4 with which to get after Brady.

It'll have some potential, but let's not go labeling it "devastating" just yet. Dareus didn't set the world on fire last year, they don't have a second DE to worry about, and Mario hasn't reached double digits in sacks since 2008.

Imagine if the Bills draft Coples too? They would go from having no pass rush to Mario and Coples at the ends, Dareus playing tackle.

Ouch. They know Brady's kryptonite and they are going to exploit it

Anyone else with ESPN Insider check out the free agent grades they have given on their Free Agent tracker? It is definitely a "What are you smoking?" type of grading scale. Here are examples:

- Mario Williams is the 36th ranked free agent behind guys like Kareem McKenzie, John Abraham, EJ Henderson, and London Fletcher.
- Brandon Lloyd is ranked behind Plaxico Burress, Hines Ward, Roy Williams, and Braylon Edwards.
- Brandon Carr is ranked below Ronde Barber, Terrance Newman, and Marcus Trufant for CBs.
- Paul Soliai is ranked below Tommie Harris, Shaun Rogers, and Kelly Gregg

Even if these are last year's grades, these just don't make sense to where they are ranked.

As Deus noted, the overrating of the Bill's (totally presumptive) defensive line continues unabated.

I can only surmise we've become so complacent with some of these teams that upgrading a single unit on one side of the ball constitutes a sea change.

...in other news, looks like Hillis is going to end up in KC.

@AlbertBreer: Bills defensive line potentially a frightening group, if they land Mario Williams, pair him with Kyle Williams and Marcel Dareus.

VOMIT CITY

Let me guess, Breer thinks the Bills' d-line will be a tougher match up for the Pats than people think.

Reiss take on what pats will do:

So here's how I see it unfolding early: 1) Try to finalize a few important re-signings with the likes of Matthew Slater, Dan Connolly and James Ihedigbo -- all more affordable targets who project to be part of the 45-man game-day roster; 2) Target a lower- to mid-level signing like tight end Daniel Fells to fill out that spot and provide some flexibility to move Aaron Hernandez to receiver at times; 3) Explore a few of the safeties on the market, such as O.J. Atogwe and Mike Adams, and build important depth there; 4) Play the wait-and-see game on Brandon Lloyd and see what market develops, while being ready to jump in if reasonable; 5) Assess the market for running back Michael Bush and whether it's feasible to bring him aboard. Summing it up, I think the realistic outcome will be to find complementary pieces more so than front-liners.

Lloyd #4

Per twitter

Cortland Finnegan and Rams have a deal in place!

No surprise there. Finnegan's a feisty bugger, and that's how Fisher likes his defensive players. As long as they didn't wildly overpay, the Rams made a good move here.

Since it's a long shot that the pats get any big name free agents, I would be pleased to see michael bush in a pats uniform

Lloyd #4

It is just Reiss' opinion.

Besides, there is no rush on Lloyd. He has basically killed the market for himself by basically telling the rest of the league that he only wants to go to New England. There are a lot of lesser WRs either signing with teams or taking visits and we haven't heard one team being interested in Lloyd. Lloyd has basically given the Pats the leeway to take their time with him.

So we're going to re up some JAG's, sign a TE, maybe a WR, and a RB... and "explore" some safeties.... boy do I feel better! It's pretty obvious it's the Pats offense that needs a lot of help. The D is pretty much set, except for some depth at Safety....

What, not a fan of Mike Adams or OJ Atogwe?!

The #1 on the list is something that should already have been done

The #2 on the list should be a very low priority

The #3 on the list should already have begun, and playing wait-and-see (#4) with Lloyd is just stupid, particularly given how quickly the WRs are coming off the board.

BTW, as an aside, Colston wasn't going to give the Saints a hometown discount but, given what the other receivers have gotten, he's pretty much done just that, hasn't he?

Cortland Finnegan, Rams, 5 years, 50 million.

What great defensive starters do you suggest the Patriots sign, sir?
