Gronkowski & Hernandez heading towards unchartered waters ?

I'd say chances of a TE or two being drafted and/or added over the off-season is roughly 100%.

The kid from Stanford is a Gronk clone:

Player Bio: Coby Fleener - Stanford University's Official Athletic Site

Of course, Coby Fleener sounds like the name of a kid you would give an atomic wedgey to, but he is tough, he already plays in a Pro Style offense, He will be one of the first TEs off the board, but you never know, maybe BB could fleece the league and pick up Coby...

Given the size of corners, it could theoretically make sense to keep Hernandez wide and play in theory a 3 Tight End formation adding a another dimension to the passing offense. Imagine the passing mismatches you'd create.

Given the Patriots inability to hit on receivers in the draft this may have some merit.

Talk about unfair for the rest of the league, haha. They already have to pick one of the two to cover, imagine 3?

Fleener would be my choice as well. He averages over 20 YPC. That's insane for a TE! He's got the size and catching ability Gronk has, although his blocking isn't quite up to par. It's not bad, though, and he does come from a pro style offense, so he would acclimate quickly. I'd love to see what BB could do with some strange three TE formations. Run? Pass? Bizarre gadget play? Stay tuned!

Looks much more like a Coby Fleener than a Gronk in this photo. Is that a Beiber cut?

Has any TE tandem ever have 70+ catches each ? I think this would be some kind of record.

As far as I can tell, only 8 teams have ever had two different tight ends catch 70 passes in a season in different seasons. So yes, having two in the same season would be a record.

Hernandez now has 68 catches on the season. Two more, and he has 70. Has any TE tandem ever have 70+ catches each ? I think this would be some kind of record. Also, imagine if Hernandez hadn't missed those 2 games, he may have as many or more catches than the Gronk ! He's only 7 catches behind. Man, this may be a record that stands for some time. What a TE combo.

To answer the original question:

No, it's never happened.

In fact, most teams have never had two different TEs with 70-catch seasons in their history, let alone in the same year.

Moreover, GRONKnandez are the only pair of TEammaTEs with 5+ TDs in two consecutive seasons. :rocker:

Patriots also have the top 2 combined TD reception records for TE's in a season.

1. 21 - 2011 Patriots (Through 14 games(
2. 18 - 2010 Patriots
3. 2004 Chargers (Don't remember the number of TD's, 15 I believe)

A TE like Gronk who could actually block in the Super Bowl really might've helped.

Okay, I'm going to go light myself on fire now.

Sinners!

Thou shalt not mention the Game that Shall Not Be Mentioned!

What game?

No idea what you're referring to. 2007? Didn't they cancel the Super Bowl that year?

Finley is a free agent this year but he'll cost too much. I'm thinking maybe Chandler from the Bills could be a great signing.

You're going to have to ice down OTG if we get this kid. Pimpin him big time on the draft board. I think he's less of a Gronk clone than a Gronk-Hernandez hybrid.

In two years NE's going to owe Gronk and Hernandez a lot of money. For the guy who wants to be "the highest paid tight end ever," I don't think there's any interest.

all the pats needed in '07 was daniel graham to rough up the NYG DE's......the game would have been a blowout

if they are smart, they will do what they did with mayo and pay 'em next year to save some $$ over the long haul......and it would behoove the two to do the deal since they will still have the age (27 or 28) to get another big deal for themselves.......

Some of you seem to think that every single player wants to be the highest paid for their position. I can't speak for those players. All I know is, if i'm Gronk or Welker or Hernandez, at the end of the day, money means nothing. Brady has about 4 years left of elite QB play and he represents the best chance for me to win a Superbowl.

best chance for YOU to win a superbowl?

are you on a first name basis with all the players?

Finley said he did.

As for Gronk, he might not end up as the highest paid, but either way he's going to command a massive raise without question. So will AH, who is currently on a fourth-round rookie contract.
