Hernandez now has 68 catches on the season. Two more, and he has 70. Has any TE tandem ever have 70+ catches each ? I think this would be some kind of record. Also, imagine if Hernandez hadn't missed those 2 games, he may have as many or more catches than the Gronk ! He's only 7 catches behind. Man, this may be a record that stands for some time. What a TE combo.

I sometimes do this because I am masochistic but imagine if we had this duo in '07.

These 2 guys are beyond awesome! We're very fortunate to have 2...frikkn TWO world-class tight-ends. Something tells me that Hernandez really isn't a tight-end...but that's his position, so we'll run with it.

BTW...title should read "Uncharted Waters"...you can't "Charter" water.

And to think that Gronk also plays on special teams, it is amazing.

really could there be a better offense maybe just add Adrian Peterson?

You don't even need to. I mean, greatest offense ever without any debate. Unstoppable. Really truly unstoppable.

I mean, even if you just add Gronk. We had Ben Watson that year, didn't we?

Ya, I loved Watson but those two woulda been allot better...........maybe Brady throws 60 tds hahaha

Plus they have 24 combined TDs. 21 receiving with 15 Gronk and 6 AH plus 3 rushing 2 by AH and 1 by Gronk. Plus 1877 yards receiving with 1141 by Gronk and 736 AH.

Hernandez doesn't have any rushing TDs; he only has two rush attempts on the season.

A TE like Gronk who could actually block in the Super Bowl really might've helped.

Okay, I'm going to go light myself on fire now.

NFLN last week was talking about Gronk vs Graham, who would you rather have for TE. It surprised me that NOBODY on the panel mention blocking, especially since at least one (Marriucci) was a former coach. Gronk is a beast.

Also, I'd be curious to see some YAC stats on these two; seems like their numbers would be well beyond what you usually get from TEs.

Is it unchartered or uncharted? I think it's uncharted, as in it hasn't been "charted" or mapped. To "charter" something is when you rent it like you charter a flight.

But probably not. Very successful duo. I said last year the offense was too predictable and having 2 TEs makes it very unpredictable.

I hope they can find a 3rd somewhere in case one gets injured.

I'd say chances of a TE or two being drafted and/or added over the off-season is roughly 100%.

They don't show up on stats.

The coaches show and sometimes playbook on NFLN and Trent Dilfer on ESPN are the only guys I ever really see do X's and O's stuff. Every other show/analyst just looks at highlight reels and stats.

Gronk: 551
Hernandez: 295

Linky poo

Heh - -thanks! Since you're in a helpful mood, would you mind breaking it down to average per reception and then do a statistical analysis comparing their average to other TEs over, say, a 25-year period?*

Appreciate it.

*or we could just simplify and say that, empirically, these guys are both beasts after the catch.

Great game back in the day ....

they better sign both of them long term..i just hernandez doen't mind not being the go to guy

i don't think hernandez will be around. some team is going to pay him a lot of money in a few years - probably close to what gronk is going to get

Here's a few statistics through week 15 for NFL Tight Ends ya'll (in the passing game)(following on from everlong).

Code:
[B]Player Receptions Rank Yards Rank Touchdowns Rank[/B]

R.Gronkowski 87 2 1141 2 15 1
A.Hernandez 68 4 736 6 6 4

In essence, through 15 weeks the Patriots Tight Ends have combined for;

155 receptions 1877 yards 21 touchdowns whilst basically ranking two top 5 Tight Ends in the same offense.
