Now Clearer AFC Playoff Picture: Pats Should Secure a Bye

Re: The Pats should secure a bye

Honestly, I hope the Pats get the 2 seed regardless. Nothing would be more joyful then sending Baltimore or Pitts home on their own field in the AFC title game. Pitts/Baltimore will prob beat Oakland in the first round, but the Texans/6th seed game will be a toss up,IMO!

Who wins the Pats/Ravens tie breaker if they both win out?

BTW, it is possible that the Jets get to 10-6, but unlikely. The Jets haven't won four out of five games all season. The way they are playing, going 10-6 is certainly not the mist realistic outcome. They are an inconsistent team and going 4-1 over a five game stretch is never the most realistic outcome for an inconsistent team.

IMO the pats need the #1 seed to reach the SB..i don't know if they can go into Balt ect and win....they NEED 1 or 2..but for SB..they need #1 IMO

That loss to the Bills could just haunt this team

When have we seen this act before? Oh yeah, never. And don't bring up 2009. This year's Jets is nothing like that team. That team had the best defense and best running game in the league and they still only went 9-7 with the last two games being against teams that rested their starters. That team was never blown out like the Pats did three weeks ago to them. And never gave up as many points against a mediocre team as they did today.

You are suggesting they will do better this year with a team that has struggled at every phase of the game atleast at points this year and have an average defense and below average running game with no team laying down at the end of the season.

you must have not seen their schedule.... Playing the skins, KC, Philly, NYG, and the Phins. Lets not act like It would be a surprise for them to only drop one of those. I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop another but I wouldn't bet money on it.

edit: the second part of the equation is the teams who are competing for that last spot with them. Cincy has a tough schedule coming up as do the Broncos. Not sure who else is in contention for the 6 but Tennessee may be there as well.

I have seen their schedule. I have seen them play too. The Chiefs are one minute away from potentially beating the Steelers right now. Philly has played most teams tough and could have won many of the games they lost. The Skins just beat the hot Seahawks. Right now I can't definitively say they are better than several of these teams.

From what I have read, the Ravens.

Based on SoS as far as I can tell. And obviously that is fluid. But given the records of our remaining teams, it will be tough to overcome. But the Ravens schedule is fairly week as well outside of the Cincy game.

Current record of the Ravens remaining opponents is 19-36
Current record of the Patriots remaining opponents is 18-37

It wouldn't be a shock if the Jets went 4-1, but I bet Vegas would put odds against it.

I doubt the Jets will win out. They will lose at least one more.IDK which game, but I guarantee they will. The only question in this playoff picture is who is going to be the 6th seed.

Its not like 3-2 means their out though. I would be shocked to see Kyle Orton and this pathetic chiefs offense win another game this season. Rex Grossman? lol and Philly can beat anybody but Im not sure if they start to turn it around this late in the season especially after being all but eliminated today.

It's a three team race between the Pats, Ravens and Steelers for the AFC. If we face a different team in the divisional round it'll be a much easier path to the SB.

The redskins just beat the Seahawks who just beat the Ravens. The Chiefs probably beat the Steelers tonight if they started Orton. Both teams are good enough to stop the Jets' pathetic offense.

I guess we can ignore what the Jets are this year which is an average at best team, but that is what they are. That means any team on their schedule is good enough to beat them. The Bills are arguably worse than any team left on their schedule and the Jets barely beat them.

Some big games for us next week:

ATL-Houston : ATL has to come through or I'll be SO pissed.
Balt @ Cle : Balt has struggled in games like this.
Cincy @ Pitt : Bengals have taken pitt and Balti to the limit. I don't expect them to win but it's definitely a game of interest.

I just really hope Houston loses so I can breathe a sigh of relief. I have an uneasy feeling even though they shouldn't finish any better than 11-5 if that.

Who gets the 2nd seed if we are tied with the Texans? Basically, the Texans is the only team the Pats need to worry about in terms of the bye. Baltimore/Pittsburgh will be canceled out if they remain tied at the end of the season. It just will be tough to get the 1 seed in that scenario which I don't think is a big difference this year.

Depends on who they lose to / if they lose.
