Patriots release Albert Haynesworth

PUP, not IR.

ah, my mistake...but still. we are 5 deep at that position. Deadrick looked pretty good last game. No one is touting them as saviors.

but brace/Deadrick actually trying >>> Haynesworth dogging it and not moving his feet

I must admit, I just don't agree with the Patriots on this decision.

I thought Albert was playing very well and more or less was setting up Carter on most plays as he would command a double team.

Sure everyone knows Al can be lazy for some plays, but more often than nought he was a force in the middle.

And you don't release a player the caliber of Haynesworth because he argued with his position coach. You reprimand him, but you don't release him and weaken a unit that was actually the strength of an already up and down defense.

Strength? Maybe against the run, but we can't hit the QB unless its garbage time or he holds on to the ball way too long (and I mean really long) which basically is credit to the coverage.

I personally don't think we should have released him, but I find the earlier releases of BM and JS much worse for our defense.

Have the Patriots made 1 good personnel decision move in 2011? I'm struggling to see it.

I don't understand what Belichick is trying to do anymore.

Why are we pissed about haynesworth and ellis? They were supposed to be the "new pass rush" fix for the offseason. So now what do we have? The same freaking team as last year in the defensive line and a worse team in the secondary.

This team is going no where for the next couple year. What a waste of 4 years and what a waste of Brady's career. Nice job BB. You freaking suck.

For the ~9 plays when the two of them were on the field together?

To be fair, Albert was playing well overall this season.

Go back and watch the plays (besides the infamous 3 consecutive plays in the Giants game) that he was in and you'll see a disruptive, powerful player.

It's revisionist homerism to suggest that Albert took off every play this season.

It appears he was cut for insubordination. Which I personally hate to see. Such a shame. I've seen a few very talented coworkers careers end due to this and it's just really crappy for everyone. The company suffers but it's the right decision usually.

The most valuable people (natural talent) in a company usually know that they are a cut above and don't like to be told what to do by perceived "lesser" people.

Pure speculation on my part but it adds up.

What rock are you ppl crawling out from? No leadership? Tarnishing the brand? Who the hell do a lot of you ppl think created that brand?! Give me a break. Now many of these so called fans are on witch hunts. It's total crap. Lets run the guy out of town, I hear after the season Pete Carroll should be available.

Some could argue that Brady is the brand. I think Belichick was a huge part of building that brand but brands are organic and subject to shifts depending on various dynamics.

Those dynamics are obviously no longer there as in the early 2000's. Only a lazy brand strategist would fall back on past glory.

Those who do not question leadership suffer from Stockhom Syndrome.

Leadership is more than x's and o's. It is the ability to lead. For some reason the old Patriot way of being a destination point for those that want to win is changing.

A good brand strategist would ask the question: why?

Do you think it is important to maintain the brand identity of the New Patriots as a team that potential high impact free agents would want to play for?

If so, do you think the Patriots still maintain that image?

If not why?

I am still wondering why Belichick has not brought Matt Slater into the offense at WR

Remember the long pass catch in the first game against Miami?,Slater has the speed and apparently the hands

I think Slater might be better than Price and I KNOW he can do better than Ocho

Without knowing the intricacies of the situation, if Haynesworth has been released for insubordination then BB needs his hands smashed with a ruler in some school yard discipline. It seems like the Patriots coaching staff is turning into a cult under BB's regime of late.

I do not disagree with this move at all even though I had hopes that a 4-3 line anchored by VW and AH would be great. Hayensworth cannot string together anything even resembling consistency. He is broken and not motivated enough to push through a whole game. He really hasn't made a significant impact. It was worth a try, but it is over. Keep his bonus money and move on, he doesn't have the hunger. 2 plays a game is not worth it, especially if he is going to fall back into his primadona ways. This defense and this team needs cohesion. I bet we see a difference this weekend.

I ain't gonna lie......... I have no idea what is going on with this team....

This is the most dysfunctional I've seen this team in 10+ years. It's very strange, and sad all at the same time. The homer in me never wanted to admit this, but it seems as if our beloved coach has lost a step. :(

I thought he was a monster on some plays, which tells me strong leadership could have done more with him. Maybe he wanted to contribute more. Maybe Belichick's rotation was too much too swallow and he did pack it in ala Moss.

Maybe Belichick should not bring in any more prima donna donna talent that he cannot handle?

It's all good if you want a bunch of stepford wives on the field, but I fear there is no fire in that kind of team.

Maybe Albert could see clearly?

This looks like leadership crumbling before our eyes.

In complete fairness Waters was a great pickup.

Haynesworth was playing pretty well when he was on the field. He apparently was on a zero tolerance policy, so as soon as his effort level fell, he was gone.

Is the defensive purge complete? Probably for this season!

If the New England Patriots move back to a 3-4 defense next season, the following players are NFL caliber:

DL

Wilfork, Love, Brace, Deaderick, Pryor, Wright

ILB

Mayo, Spikes, Fletcher

OLB

Ninkovich, Cunningham (AWOL in 2011)

CB

Arrington, Dowling, McCourty

S

Chung

The rest either have no business on the football field, not a scheme fit, or just plain over-the-hill.

Played well at times, not so well at others.

I think the Bedard article spells out the reasoning quite well.

The guy had six tackles all year. What caliber are you refering to?
